The Microsoft gamescom press briefing has just finished, and in a bizarre turn of events there has been no release date mentioned. Sure we got some new games here, like Fable Legends, but no solid release date so close to a release window is quite worrying.
We already know that the Xbox One has been delayed in eight nations already, but this makes me think that there could be more going on with the One. Will we see a global delay? Probably not, but maybe one or two other territories will miss the supposed November launch.
What makes this stranger is that we know that Sony are detailing their release plans later on today, so Microsoft not taking advantage and getting the positive headline first is a strange move. Then again maybe they’re waiting to find out Sony’s release plans before confirming their own.
You can find out about Sony’s release plans from 6PM tonight, and we’ll be bringing all the news as it happens.
Bilbo_bobbins
Oh dear, obviously waiting for Sony first. Christ they must be very worried over there and shitting bricks as we speak.
bigbaldwolf
They are trying to throw money at everything with timed exclusive DLC and exclusive deals. They are scared and they know Sony will hammer them. The FIFA throw in was pointless as well. It’s good for those who preordered but as an incentive for anyone else it’s a bit late in the day. Plus it’s still cheaper to get a PS4 with FIFA anyway.
pdannysan13
Well, I actually think it maybe their best move to try and push Xbox One in Europe. In North America I don’t know what is the situation but here almost everybody who has a console has FIFA. I personally don’t, because I am not that a big soccer fan but I know that people are crazy for it. I do not know if this move will tilt the balance in their favour but it is a smart move I think.
Starman
I think there’s another conference tomorrow with Phil Spencer. Hopefully its revealed then.
Amphlett
[smutty joke] I hope that’s all he reveals!

Recently whenever MS spoke first Sony went and trumped it. MS changing tact perhaps by going second?
JR.
That’s what I thought. Smart move. Somebody at MS switched their brain on.

*tack.
It’s a sailing term, to change tack basically means to swing the sails and move the bow through the wind (change direction essentially)
tonyyeb
Thanks 3shirts, I wouldn’t have slept wondering if that was correct or not ;)

I won’t apologise for educating :)
Kivi95
MS waiting for Sony it seems.
Amphlett
That’s my thought as well. They have another press event tomorrow so may spill the beans then, which is obviously after this evening’s Sony event.

They would only do that if they were prepared to move their date forward, which by the sounds of it, is going to be a difficult thing to do, given for every 17 that work at the test station, another 73 go back for rework…
Unless Microsoft want to play smoke and mirrors and launch first at ANY cost (look at how much the ANY COST cost them and gamers last time), then it’s not going to happen. Either that, or they will cut back the number of regions even further, along with cutting regional allocations, and then play the “high demand” PR stunt without mentioning any numbers, and ensure all the media are suitably greased palms to not ask any revealing questions.
I’m not seeing very many ways that this isn’t going to end badly for Microsoft.
TSBonyman
I guess there wasn’t enough interest to make an announcement? ;)
tonyyeb
They’ve emailed the 3 people who have pre ordered directly with the date.
Bilbo_bobbins
ha ha, good one
Butcher
Yea. That makes loads of sense been as pre orders have nearly sold out.
Obviously another stupid ps4 fan boy.

Ah Butcher. You are new here. We are a friendly bunch of scallywags who like to gently rib each other and the industry. Try not to take it too seriously.
blarty
Well, MS has already said it’s November, and they’ve delayed in certain territories – I doubt MS could match an October release date
jimmy-google
Maybe they don’t know. It doesn’t fill you will confidence though does it?
Just hope they’re not rushing it to make their November deadline. The industry needs good competition.
cam the man
I’ve read a few reports that have said there has been a few problems with the embedded ESRAM on their chips so the yield is a lot lower than what they hoped. MS deny it but the excuses they gave for the territory delays were rather weak.
EFTyphoon
hmmmm….I definitely think they are waiting for Sony to show their “hand”…
What happens right, if then Sony don’t tell us their release date!? ha-ha.
It’ll be like some release date void we will be stuck in. :0)
