Timesplitters Rewind In Development For PS4

Timesplitters Rewind, the community project being developed using the CryEngine3 with the blessing of Crytek is now being developed for PlayStation 4 as well as the PC.

Gaming Blend spoke to Michael Hubicka, the project lead on Timesplitters Rewind, and he revealed that work is about to begin on a PS4 version of the game.

“We’re actually going to go ahead and start development [of Timesplitters Rewind] on PlayStation 4. Just because we’re pretty confident Crytek’s going to say go ahead and do it. But we don’t want them saying go ahead and do it when we’re caught with our pants down and we’re like halfway through development and [then] start something for the PlayStation 4.

“So we decided that since they released the SDK to allow us to do this, we’re going to go ahead and do it ourselves, and when they say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ we can decide what to do with that. For now we’re just going to go ahead and do it. So at least we’re prepared.”

At present there is no news on an Xbox One version of the game, “In terms of the Xbox One, we haven’t really looked into the development behind it, because there’s still a lot of details we need to look into,” said Michael.

  1. Think lots of people are going to go mental for this!

    • Definitely! And dust Crytek give tese guys their blessing in some way earlier in the year? Seems like their up for it! Fingers crossed for split-screen.

      • Sorry, I meant ‘didn’t Crytek give these’. Bloody iPhone.

      • Are you also blaming your iphone for tere and their? ;-)

  2. I wasn’t even aware of the Timesplitters Rewind project so this is exciting news for me – i just hope they aren’t being premature about a PS4 version if it hasn’t been green-lit yet.

  3. ha ha, I know a lot of people have been crying for this. Good to see its possibly being done.

  4. Crytek will make sure it’s on Xbox one come on, they practically in bed with MS

    • Crytek are not making the game, fans are.

      • Oh ok I get it now, they just need permission to use the engine? I thought crytek owned the IP

      • They have the engire, Crytek do own the IP, so the fans need Crytek to agree they can release a PS4 version alongside the PC version.

The Xbox One version is entirely down to if the fans want to make it, as they are doing the work. If they do, they Crytek will need to OK that as well.

  5. Wow :D

  6. Hmm, not the ideal situation but i’d still love to see Timesplitters return. Split screen is a must.

  7. I wonder if they still plan to release it freely. Even if it wasn’t, I’d pay for it.

  8. Easily one of my top last-gen series. Spent hours upon hours replaying the campaign and doing all the challenges. Think I nearly managed to get all of the characters at some point.
