Driveclub VR Has A Tech Demo Though Full Release Not Confirmed

Today Evolution unveiled a tech demo for Driveclub VR, though this isn’t confirmation that the studio will be releasing a VR version of the racing title. The tech demo features the BAC Mono going around a circuit on a track from India, and the experience is rendering at 60fps. However the transmission to the PSVR headset is 120fps through reprojection, so the experience is smooth. Driveclub runs at 30fps on the PS4, but the 60fps rate comes at a cost with fewer cars on the track and some track details being scaled back.

While Driveclub VR does exist it doesn’t mean Evolution is confirming whether the game will release properly, with the studio gauging reactions for now. Considering that Driveclub is one of the flagship titles for PS4 it would be strange if Sony didn’t invest in a proper VR counterpart for it. In fact one of the rumours for Driveclub’s original delay was that Evolution were working with Project Morpheus at the time. That was rumour was quashed with statements saying Evolution weren’t working with the technology at that time.
