Abridged Too Far – Heavy Rain

Madison held on to the drink but never once lifted it to her mouth. The Doc looked particularly upset by this – probably because he had slipped her a couple of Rohypnol.

MADISON: I’m looking for an apartment, too.

THE DOC: I have one or two for rent.

MADISON: Any on Marble Street?

THE DOC: That’s very specific and in no way suspicious. I have none for rent there.

The Doc could see that Madison wasn’t going to partake in the drink so he got up and went to fetch the drugs that she was pretending to need.

While he was gone Madison decided to start snooping through his stuff. She opened a drawer and found a picture of The Doc in suspenders and high heels. It was a disturbing image that made Madison want a drink to forget.

She entered his bedroom and riffled through the cupboards and found a business card belonging to a guy named Paco at a club called The Blue Lagoon. This had to be of interest because she interacted with it more than everything else. She took the card. As she walked back out into the hallway she felt a massive thud on the back of her head and before she knew it she was unconscious. The Doc stood over her with a baseball bat in his hand.

Madison awoke in the basement and found herself tied to a table. The Doc had a massive drill and was about to plunge it into her head when all of a sudden the doorbell rang.

THE DOC: I’m going to answer the door. Feel free to scream because I know you can’t scream very loudly so it doesn’t bother me.

With The Doc out of the room Madison began shuffling her hands and feet and loosened the ropes. She freed herself just as The Doc returned and things got heavy. The Doc grabbed a small power saw and lunged toward her. She dodged, picked up the big drill and plunged it into his chest cavity. He moaned with pleasure for 3 seconds before spitting out blood and collapsing to the floor.

Madison appeared unfazed by the experience and left calmly.

Day: Thursday
Time: 11:03pm
Weather: Shit

Having gone home and changed into party clothes, Madison turned up at The Blue Lagoon on the hunt for Paco. He wasn’t exactly hard to find as his VIP section was right next to the entrance. She approached his bodyguard.

MADISON: Can I speak with Paco?

BODYGUARD: No. He’ll choose to speak to you if you dress a bit slutty…Or if you’re dressed like a clown.

She had unfortunately left her clown outfit at home so Madison went into the bathroom and tore her skirt – to an expertly tailored standard – and undone a button on her blouse. She ruffled her hair but it stayed exactly the same and then she applied make-up. She was a bit heavy handed with the lipstick and blusher and ended up looking like The Joker.

She exited the bathroom and climbed onto a platform in full view of Paco. DJ Casper and the Casper Slide Part II came on.

MADISON: Oooo! I love this song. 2 hops, 2 hops. Reverse, reverse. Criss-cross! Everybody clap your hands…

Her dancing was reminiscent of a fish out of water but it had caught the eye of Paco – each to their own, I guess. He summoned her to his private office up the stairs. She followed.

Paco sat down and ordered Madison to dance for him. She was hesitant but had no other choice. She undid some more buttons her blouse. She then stopped and pointed to the ceiling.

MADISON: Look over there.

PACO: What?

Madison picked up a lamp and smacked the now-distracted Paco over the head with it. She picked him up – Madison’s deceptively strong – and tied him to a chair. He finally regained consciousness.

PACO: Ooo yeah baby, you’re kinky.

MADISON: You really need to take a cold shower. Tell me who rented the apartment in Marble Street.

PACO: Err…no.

MADISON: Oh, go on.

PACO: I don’t know.

Madison bent down and punched Paco square in the nuts. Then she did it again just for a laugh.

MADISON: Tell me.

PACO: Oww! His name was John Sheppard.

Madison kicked him in the nuts for good measure and left the club.

Day: Thursday
Time: 11:39pm (yes we are supposed to believe that doing all of that as well as return home and getting changed only took 36 minutes)
Weather: As always…shit

Madison once again walked past Ethan’s motel room to find the door ajar. She entered and found him sat by the window in a rather depressed state. She slid down beside him and comforted him with a few words before leaning in to kiss him. It was supposed to be passionate but it looked more like two first-aid students practising mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on each other. After a quick decision from Ethan, the pair stripped and had sex – all in the name of finding Shaun, of course.

Madison awoke having been disturbed by Ethan’s raised voice. He had found her notepad…her journalist pad. Ethan had finally found out that she was a journalist.

ETHAN: I am very upset. You tricked me into thinking you cared. I will never forgive you.

MADISON: I’m sorry. I am a journalist but I do care. Forgive me?

ETHAN: Oh, alright then.

MADISON: Good. I’ll go downstairs and get you something to drink.

Madison left the motel room and headed down to the vending machines. Once on the ground floor she noticed that the Police had arrived at the motel and decided to phone Ethan to warn him. She was reluctant at first as the phone cost $2 but she knew she had to.

MADISON: ETHAN, GET TO THE CHOPPER!

ETHAN: What?

MADISON: Police are here, you’d better leave.

Day: Friday
Time: 9:07am
Weather: Guess

Madison had done some research that was obviously not interesting enough for anyone to see because the next thing we know was that she was making her way to a Hospital where Ann Sheppard was currently being housed. Ann was John Sheppard’s mother and John Sheppard died 30 years ago and his brother disappeared. As she walked down the corridor she noticed a vase containing orchids…she’s onto something here.

She entered Ann’s room.

MADISON: Tell me where your son is. Don’t mess me about.

ANN: I have alzheimers

MADISON: Boo hoo, I have insomnia. TELL ME WHERE HE IS!

ANN: Come closer.

Madison leaned in and Ann burped in her ear and laughed so loud that her catheter filled up slightly. Then she whispered the name of her son to Madison.

Day: Friday
Time: 6:36pm
Weather: No one gives a shit

Using her journalist contacts – because it’s easier than explaining everything again – Madison tracked down Ann’s son to a small apartment. A plaque on the door read: Scott Shelby: Private Investigator and lover of Orchids and Origami. No one was home so she broke in.

She searched the flat and found a secret door which lead into a secret room. The secret room contained Orchids, an old typewriter, a laptop and a TV with CCTV footage of Shaun Mars floating in rain water.

MADISON: I have a feeling this man is the Origami Killer.

She hacked into the laptop and found the address where Shaun was being held. She exited the room and was confronted by Scott Shelby wielding a gun.

SHELBY: Surprise!

He locked her in the secret room and set fire to the apartment. Madison grabbed an orchid from the side and tried to break down the wall with it. Flowers aren’t good for smashing things. She quickly picked up the typewriter and smashed a hole in the wall, climbed through and found herself in the bathroom. She opened the door into the living room and began finding her way through the flames.

As she moved through the apartment she noticed a gas bottle was dangerously close to exploding; she had to move fast. She found her way into the kitchen and looked for somewhere to hide. She opened the microwave and tried to climb inside but she wasn’t as small as she used to be so she had to settle for hiding in the fridge.

The gas bottle exploded and the flat was destroyed.

Madison managed to find her way out onto the street. She took out her phone and contacted Shaun even though he already knew the location. She climbed on her bike and headed off.

  • To drive to Shaun’s location: Run up some stairs (doesn’t matter whose), raise your arms victoriously and then shout ‘Adrienne’ really loudly and then go to page 11
