PSN Store Update: 28/7/10

It’s another brisk week for the PlayStation Store with Earthworm Jim HD arriving. If you’re too young to remember the game first time around, it was a kooky kind of platformer which was packed with humour and, if my memory serves me correctly, flying cows.

Also this week, Episode 17 of FirstPlay seems to have a fairly strong lineup with a bit of personality being injected via their new feature in which members of the team recount personal gaming highs. The rest of the episode looks fairly strong too with a feature on 3D with Ray Maguire and a preview of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

Bear in mind that the special offers are still on a number of products (I bought Mortal Kombat II and Street Fighter II Turbo last week and I’ve completely lost my skills on both) so if there’s nothing new this week for you then why not pick up some classics at a great price?

So, anything there tickle your fancy this week?

  1. So… erm… why is pong £3.99?

    • That’s about right for a PSone game isn’t it?

      • FOr some reason in my mind it was just Pong… you know Black and White… basic… Pong

      • Admittedly, i did have to do a double-take too!

    • Sorry, google has answered… Anyway regarding PSOne Classics, why is Sim City 2000 £6.49?

      • Because they know that they can milk people for all that they can get with that one!

      • EA decided hardly anything worth over or around £6.49 for Playstation unless it was a true classic.

  2. Before anyone starts… Pong got over 90% in the majority of its reviews and it is DEFINITELY a classic. So yah boo to you!

    • Damn, not fast enough it seems.

    • LOL… oh god, crying salty tears of laughter. You weren’t quite quick enough to be before anyone starts…
      Also, PONG?!
      *giggles*

      • Pong is the mack daddy. Ah shut up and buy Earthworm Jim already. :P

    • the man speaks the truth! I had Pong back in the PS1 days and it was absolutely amazing games – there’s a whole bunch of great mini games. I’m thinking of grabbing it, but I’m not sure if it would support 4 player

  3. Grabbing FirstPlay for the Brotherhood preview.

  4. What an incredibly BAB update…. saves me money I suppose!

  5. When is the next EU PS+ update? Is it next week?

    • Yes

    • Yes. It’s gonna be the first Wednesday for every month from now on.

      • Good to know.

I’m hungry for freebies. Daddy wants his candy.

      • Ive just been a little bit sick

      • I aim to please :)

    • To be honest, the disparity between the EU and US PS Plus services is really bustin’ ma balls, so to speak…Every week the US gets great exclusive PS Plus content while the EU service, although still good, Is absolute rubbish compared to the US! I signed up for a year and I am really regretting it now…I should have signed up for three months and switched to the US!

      • The US get their releases drip fed to them, we get them all at once at the start of the month.

      • I think we all know by now, that EU plus gets it content only once per month and that would have been fine, if we were to get the same content as US. But we are not EVEN close, we are getting fucked in the *** BIG time by SCEE.

        US Psn Plus:
        Mini’s: 3
        Psn games: 2
        DLC packs: 8
        PS1 games: 2
        Themes: 6
        Avatars: 7
        Video content: 1
        Discounts: 21

        EU PSN Plus:
        Mini’s: 2
        PSN Games: 1
        DLC packs: 1….
        PS1 Games: 1
        Themes: 2
        Avatars: 2
        Discounts: 4

        Go fuck your self SCEE.

      • Wow, didn’t realise it was that bad. I vote for the UK to separate from Europe and hope it gets better :P Not that it will ever hapen!

      • What about Ireland…And yes I would also have been fine with them getting it every week if it was the same ammount of content all in all, but it just isnt…They essentially pay less than us and get Qore for free…Especially if you look at the exchange rate.

      • Fine, GB & Ireland can revolt and have their own SCE. Although it would be a pretty long name – SCEUKROI, or SCEGBI. Doesn’t really roll off the tongue…

      • SCEE drop the ball far too frequently, and PS+ is just the latest cockup. I can’t remember where I saw it, but I think the Asian territories have it even worse.

    • You do know that the contents are already set and you can find out what you get?

      • Yep, but I physically want it. Even tho I won’t play it for ages due to Peace Walker addiction.

      • Peace Walker is awesome…my problem is im playin it on the PSP Phat 1000, so I cant plug it in to my tv which makes it much harder to motivate myself to play it because it is awesome and I really do want to play it more often…Hit me up for some co-op over ad-hoc party on the PS3 :)

      • I honestly would, but aparrantly it only works with a wired PS3 connection, while mine is wireless :( I have no co-op friends! Sucks ass! That being said, I finish work in a couple of weeks and could move my PS3 downstairs and wire it up… add me on PSN and I’ll let you know. Say it’s about Peace Walker co-op :)

      • Cool will do…same PSN ID as ur TSA ID? Also plugging it into a laptop and running the laptop wireless tricks it :)

  6. meh.. was hoping for an extra plus update since america is living the life with theirs.. but meh.. (yeah i know they said they wouldnt give us more.. but still..)
Not much to look at this week either.. guess ill save some cash 8)

  7. Wow – Looks to be a cheap week for me, as nothing is really grabbing my interest there!
Well, maybe the pain expansion if i can be bothered to sit around for 2 days whilst it updates!

  8. Can’t wait to try Madden out, loved it on the Megadrive, but the game’s have become almost unplayably complicated over the past few years.
Not sure how I feel about a Flower demo, the game needs to be experienced as whole to appreciate it, but if more people get on board, that’s great

    • I haven’t played Madden since its Megadrive days , but funnily enough i was looking at a used copy of Madden 10 earlier and I might give this a shot .
Not a fan of American sports generally but as it’s so quiet I will give the demo a try . I have a mate who is always rabbiting on about some Sony Baseball game think its called MLB The Show ? anyway he has me convinced that even non fans of the sport will be hooked , I’ve never seen a copy in this country .

  9. Rayman 2?!??!

    YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

    • If you’re gonna play Rayman 2, you need to get the dreamcast version. It’s literally a whole generation of graphical difference, and looks much better.

  10. There’s some free Skate 3 DLC too.

    • All Skate 3 DLC should be free, to be fair.
