Yamauchi: GT5 Will Be Finished “Shortly”

Those disillusioned by Gran Turismo 5’s constant delays will be pleased to hear that the game is almost complete.  This news will hopefully dispel that horrid feeling we’ve been having in the pit of our stomachs – waiting for the release date to be pushed back once again.  Via his Twitter account, Yamauchi said the following;

“GT5 is getting to where it will be finished shortly”

Some people have blown this out of proportion slightly, focusing on the fact that it’s still not finished (OMG!) – but it’s not uncommon to see a game being worked on right up until it’s out the door.  If any game will be worth the protracted development time, it will be Gran Turismo 5.

      • I can’t see GT5 having any bugs, Yamauichi would have a fit. And fallout 3 was diabolical for the amount of bugs! It should never have been released like that, the PS3 bricking hating fiend!

  5. You know, the date hasn’t really been pushed back at all. There was never a date announced. He once said a time frame of March for Japan, but no specific date. As for US and EU, no date or time frame has ever been given.

    • The E3 trailer said finally coming October 12th, now it’s late november…

      • Don’t know what E3 trailer you watched, it said the 2nd of Nov for the US.

      • E3 2010 announced a US release of Nov 2nd (2010)
        Personally i would imagine thats actually world wide, but i have been wong before

    • Just because they weren’t silly enough to announce a date…. it doesn’t mean it hasn’t slipped from a date (or even year) they hoped to achieve.

  6. Theres still 3 months to go, thats plenty of time. We don’t even have a release date yet, so technically, it can’t be delayed anyway.

    • ‘shortly’ to polyphony digital means 6 months :) hopefully not.

      • ‘shortly’ as used in this context, is unquantified. It depends what Yamauchi was comparing ‘shortly’ to and as he hasn’t done so, it could actually mean any period of time.
        Next we’ll see statements that this is a ‘quality game’.

      • Yeh. That’ll teach me to reply with my iPhone. Bloody useless predictive/corrective text. It keeps suggesting “ducking” too. :-)

I hear it’s still at 90% as Yamauchi-san has found out that Flower has more animated blades of grass per square metre so has ordered an engine overhaul so he can render 10 giga blades per square metre with animations taking account of weather conditions, aerodynamics of passing cars, exhaust gases and the rabbit that farted at the end of the pit straight.
