THQ Posts £19m Q1 Loss

THQ has reported a £19 million loss, way down from a profit of £4 million during the same period last year.  Sales also fell from £154 million to £94.5 million.  UFC 2010 performed well, but a lack of a big game such as last year’s ‘Red Faction: Guerrilla’ hit them where it hurt – the wallet!

THQ CEO Brian Farrell had the following to say;

“During the quarter, we continued to bring superior quality games to market. We also delivered our most critically acclaimed E3 showing ever with a strong line-up of games in development, several of which are based on proven long-term franchises.  Our goal this fiscal year continues to be to position THQ for growth in fiscal 2012 and beyond.

We are excited about the opportunity for industry growth provided by rapidly expanding online markets and new gaming platforms such as Kinect, Move and Nintendo 3DS. We are developing franchises on these new gaming platforms and we are increasing our investment in online and digital.”

With a line-up that includes Homefront, Red Faction: Armageddon, WWE All Stars, The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout, UFC Fitness Trainer, de Blob 2: The Underground and Saints Row 3 – we are sure THQ can turn things around.

  1. It’s because Metro 2033 sucked, the only games I’ve ever bought from THQ were WWE on PS2 and Tony Hawk games on the PS1!

    • I can’t remember buying a THQ game, apart from red faction guerilla, and that was pre owned.
      I feel a little guilty now lol.
      *self promises to buy RF: Armageddon on release*

  2. Not one game on that list interests me other than maybe Red Faction. That’s simply a weak portfolio if you ask me.

  3. Thats a shame, I do like THQ. Saint Row 2 was great, and Red Faction I enjoyed and the new one looks fantastic.

  4. Never good to see news like this… lets hope it leads to better games… THQ!

  5. Red faction guerilla and ufc 2010 were not even the best of games. Still hope that they pull out more in last half of the year.
