Now that Capcom’s Ninja Theory developed Devil May Cry is officially out of the bag, it’s time to take a look at what all the fuss is about. When we say fuss what we really mean is internet furore over the fact that Dante has been completely redesigned.
Younger (gone is the shock of gray hair) and smoking (literally), watch as New Dante dishes out the hurt to numerous enemies and generally acts the bad-ass. It looks cool. It doesn’t necessarily look like Devil May Cry, but we’re liking the new direction.

Oh dear me, this looks fun but, it doesn’t feel right.
I suppose they’re going for a more urban theme rather than a gothic-ish theme they had going in the others. I’m sick and tired of seeing the SAW rooms with two way mirrors though.

Oh dear… that doesn’t look promising. Need to see some gameplay first of course, but the design work is not pleasing to the eyes and a bad first impression is going to stick I’m afraid.
Also, I hope the lack of swords in that trailer isn’t going to extend to the actual game.

I’m not a massive follower or fan of DMC (only played 4 which was dull) but I think reboots are generally exciting ideas. Some one else can come and provide a new experience and ideas to a franchise that make it feel fresh. Instead of new titles continuing the same and getting stale.
I’d love for some franchises to get a reboot. Resistance for one. I’ll keep my eye and mind open for this one, I suggest you do the same!

This game looks shit

Like the look of this. DMC4 was the stale and a reboot will do the franchise good and should give them a solid platform to build on for future games, plus ninja theory aren’t fools.
Don’t understand the hate at all, not even slightly
jonny_bolton
Nobody likes change!
On a serious note, I don’t like it. It’s my favourite ever series on the PS2 and I did kinda enjoy DMC4. It wasn’t as good as 3 or 1 but I enjoyed it. I just don’t understand where it fits into the DMC universe. I guess Dante did a lot of demon hunting when he was younger so maybe this will be a kind of “taking up different missions” thing.
cc_star
If its a proper reboot, it won’t fit in to the existing universe
It will be a new start, and all future story arcs will have this as their foundation
jonny_bolton
Right I see. Well I won’t judge it from this trailer but I love the current series and I can’t help but fear for the worst…guess that’s the pessimist in me.

Apparently it’s set before DMC3 as a prequel so this would supposedly fit in with the DMC canon as well.
Cathaloh
Hey guys does anyone actually know if this game is a complete revamp or a prequal to DMC3?
I hope the original franchise will continue onif it is a revamp though,as I’m one of the few people who loved DMC4.
jonny_bolton
I’m guessing a prequel to DMC3 but then I don’t really understand how that would fit into the DMC mythology and backstory, which is my main gripe with it. That, and the fact Dante looks like a complete tool…
Cathaloh
Well we don’t know how much of Dante’s past. My guess is this is set during that time Dante said in DMC3 “It’s been almost a year since we last meet.” My guess is this might be back when him and Vergil (if he appears in the game)worked together.
Dante has some white lashes in his hair if you look carefully. This might just tell the tale on how became the more white haired badass we more know and love him for being. Well, that’s what I’m hoping for.
And jonny my favourite part was actually Dante’s backtracking. :P He was funner to play has, had better taunts: “Hey, what’s up?” And the boss battle cutscenes were top-notch. :D
jonny_bolton
Oh no don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed 3. More than 2 and 4 and the cut-scene where he’s running down the side of the Temen-Ni-Gru then gets eaten by the giant flying thing is up there as one of the best along with the pulling of Alastor out of his body in Devil May Cry.
I did catch the white flashes in his hair which is why I’m more inclined to think it will be a prequel to 3. Fingers crossed they don’t change his personality. “Jackpot” was one of the best things ever said by a character ever!
I also hope they make it as crushingly hard as they did the first one. Completing that on “Dante Must Die” mode is one of my biggest gaming accomplishments!
jonny_bolton
Also my other gripe is that Dante has never given any sense of being an angry mother. There’s the flashes in DMC and in DMC3 when he shows his power, but nothing to suggest he was some angsty teen on a one man crusade. If it is a prequel to DMC3 then I don’t see how his new “I hate life” attitude becomes his arrogant, cocky persona within a few years. Guess it’s a wait and see really.
ultimatepunchrod
yea 4 wasnt bad at all. it certainly wasnt the best but it was a solid entry. i liked it a lot, but i think people were a little annoyed they had to backtrack as dante. i still liked it and nero as well.
bunimomike
I thought the trailer was great but I’m not a huge DMC fan and can definitely see why it’s put out a lot of fans. Still, there might be a good game in here somewhere. I’ll sit tight and see how it pans out.
ultimatepunchrod
this looks pretty promising. i want to see more. i love DMC(all except 2) and Ninja Theory because heavenly sword was amazing. they know action.
SirGregThorn
Not looking to great if I’m honest :/
Anyone else think this looks more like prototype than any DMC ?
ProjectJAY
oh, great. we’re doing the inFamous 2 dance all over again.
although for the record, I’m much more opposed to new Dante than new Cole. What is with that haircut?!?
