It has been a confusing time for those following Peter Molyneux’s Kinect game ‘Project Milo.’Â Â It’s been called a game, then a tech demo, then definitely a game – but now it looks like it may have been cancelled.
Sources have told Eurogamer that development on Project Milo was officially stopped yesterday, and as a result nineteen contractors have lost their jobs.
The source claims that the Project Milo tech will instead be used for a “Fable themed Kinect game” – and let’s be honest that does sound pretty interesting!
So far Microsoft and Lionhead have refused to comment on the claim – Eurogamer are trying to get something out of them, and we will have a go too. We will update this when new information emerges.

Hardly surprising. There’s zero market for a game like this, especially with Kinect’s current pitching.

There seemed to be zero game to market as well. Aha! See what I did there? Thank you, I’m here all week, try the veal.

there would have been at least one person interested, but then michael jackson died.

Gary Gltter is still alive. Sadly.

Don’t forget Venables.

Am amazed at all the wow halo effect around Micheal Jackson now he’s a gonner, Not so long ago he was a mad chimp abandoner who spoke like a girl, fiddled with minors and dangled babies out of windows between having chunks of his face removed.

and microsoft dat risk dat much, no controller waz already introduced by eyetoy =1

Arsebandits. I’e just realised this means my highly slanderous epic tail “FrankenMilo” is completely obsolete. :(

Fable is boring and overrated. I’d much prefer something new using the AI of Milo

Hardly surprising, it was just a hype demo. it was all CGI and a pipe dream. got everyone talking about Kinect and its ‘amazing interactive games’ as some guy on BBC news said… I could tell it would never see the light of day just from looking at the mime playing with the video!
But the part of this story that does have interest is the fable thing…seems a cop out to me, i thought when they said Kinect would be used in Fable, it would be used in a full fledged Fable game. Not an Kinect only game, sounds like they are attaching the Fable name to party shovel-ware title. Not good for the millions of Fable fans IMO. Wait and see i guess, but i have a feeling thats whats going to happen…

Sorry, can i just lol instead?

It was always difficult to see what the actual marketable game was so its not really surprising. If it has been cancelled I’m pretty sure parts of it will live on in future projects or at least the learnings from it will.

I’m not surprised – but this may annoy Molyneux a bit as he seemed quite keen on allowing you to look after a virtual boy!
On a related Kinect point, is it just me or is it really hard to find actual hands on impressions with Kinect games? I was reading about some of the new stuff shown at TSG, mainly that in a move not at all directed in any way at Sports Champions MS have decided to add Beach Volley Ball and Table Tennis to the Kinect Sports lineup! However when I tried to find some actual opinion about what it’s like to play table tennis with your hand (again another example of a sport where you hold something being replicated by pretending to hold something in an effort to be a more realistic experience!) but I couldn’t find anything aside from some footage of MS employees or booth babes playing it (in a blatantly over the top manner) and previews of people writing about what it was like watching them play it.
I want to know what real people think playing the games! I only found one which was highly negative but that could just be because they don’t like the concept to start with.
Why are MS still being so secretive about the games with just a few months to go before launch? I can’t wait for real reviews to come in – and to head TSA’s hands-on impressions.

with out sounding too negative, its because it doesn’t work. MS need to keep it under wraps and build as much hype as it can, then make massive first week sales, and cross fingers that a dev makes a half decent party game for it. Its aimed at the casual market, so lots of shinny happy families in a modern house grinning and jumping around on TV adverts will do the selling, not the reviews and demos.
DrNate86
You may look, but don’t touch. MS you kinky little thing you…

So no more ‘dark adventures’ with a little boy? Damn.

lol, the high score chart would surely have made the police’ job a lot easier.

I’m hardly surprised, that milo thing would have been interesting for what? A day? There was no game there, certainly nothing that could have been marketed as a full game. I really do not see how the tech could be implemented into a game either, I mean it’d have to be toned down somewhat to fit the restritions of story a game must have and then it’s really just the same as any other RPG element isn’t it?

It’s probably less embarrassing for Molyneux to have it cancelled, than to have it released. Let’s be honest, it would only take about an hour before people had smashed through the mirrors and blown the smoke away.
This way it can go down in history as an ‘innovative and high tech’ Kinect project that never saw the light of day, rather than the sham it actually was.
