Kaz Confirms “Work Is Underway” On GT6

Polyphony head Kazunori Yamauchi is currently in Las Vegas for the 2010 SEMA Show, a trade-only conference all about the motoring industry.  As such, he’s been giving interviews with a few publications and Autoweek has picked his brains about Gran Turismo 5.

The car he’s chosen this year to win the SEMA Gran Turismo award is this 1969 Chevy Camero, which got the Best In Show award. “This year’s winner is going to be in the next Gran Turismo installment, which I’m presuming will be Gran Turismo 6,” asks Autoweek.

“It’s probably too late for Gran Turismo 5, right?” says the website, to which Kaz replies “right”, before being asked, “Is development underway on GT6?”

“Yeah,” is the succinct reply.  “It’s not something that we can talk that lightly on. It took 2,000 days to get all the ideas that went into GT5. It’s just too early to be talking about GT6.”

He also talks about the real reason for the recent delay. “It was really to adjust it so it would be perfect,” he says, before mentioning his first release, Motor Toon GP, and how that was released far too early. “That was something I regretted very much when that happened because I knew it was coming,” he confides.

“And that happened at the beginning of my career, and it was something I vowed would never happen again.”

Finally, he confirms that there won’t be engine swaps in Gran Turismo 5. “No, engine swaps,” he says, “you can’t do that.”

  1. So that will be GT6 on the PS4 then

  2. Right, still a little concerned.

Still no release date. All we supposedly know is the game is being pressed based on a very short interview from a website i’d never heard of before who apparently are known for jesting a bit.

Then we have this bit from Autoweek, who, despite the fact the game was originally meant to be in our hands this week, didn’t appear to ask for a release date or a release date date or anything else particularly relevant (granted they’re not a games site but still, for car enthusiasts you’d think they’d be a little more up to speed or interested).

We have conflicting info that the delay was due to the new firmware requirements and therefore missing the slot on the production line. Now Kaz says he was still tweaking?!

I’m getting rather a tad nervous about all this now.

Have we had confirmation, other than from Jalopnik, that it is actaully being pressed right now!?

    • OK I read the autoweek article properly this time. So they did as for a release date and we will be playing it before Christmas. Expect an announcement soon!

So I take back some of what I said up there.

Still, would like some confirmation about the production.

    • i cant bring myself to think of such a scenario, where its not here till 2011
he will deliver, im sure of it

but ur right, the signs are there

  3. i love this guy
id quite happily wait for all my desired games/in general to be treated with the highest regard, resulting in a better end product

    dloaded moh dlc
all game modes fully detailed in a help tab(displayed under game mode so not needed, but hey they put in help tab)
They havnt bothered or forgot to update help tab with either of new modes

the high pitched noise the mubi icon screen makes on xmb, and the freezing

    two examples of poor QC
i could give more recent examples, but relax i wont lol

rant over feel so much better

  4. GT6? Out in 2018 on the PlayStation 4 I predict!

  5. I wonder if we’ll see GT5 Specs basically auto-pushed DLC.

Also if by engine swapping he means upgrading them in the cars then Nooooo!

  6. Se he is trying to make up for releasing Motor Toon GP too early? Well mission f***ing accomplished Yamauchi-san

  7. What could GT6 possibly bring to the table that isn’t already in GT5 or can’t be added via DLC? If your current game is as perfect as it can be, there’s almost no room for a sequel. But then again, I don’t understand people who buy every FIFA game that comes out.

    • KY has said that motorbikes aren’t out of the question, as long as theres enough demand for them. Other than that, more cars and tracks. Not forgetting this will be the first time damage has made an appearance, so there will undoubtedly be room for improvement there.

  8. 4k resolution please.
those tv sets should be in production by the time GT6 releases.

  9. yep i read that article yesterday pretty good news i think

  10. Im waiting patiently! Just keeping quiet and hoping that argos doesnt run out of driving force gts by the 23rd of this month! although ill be reserving one every 3 days form now lol. (is that sad?)
