Europe Apparently Says “No” To 3D TV

Price comparison site Twenga has done a Europe wide survey comprising of 3000 people in six countries regarding their thoughts on 3D TV.  Only one percent of the UK respondents will be getting a 3D TV this Christmas, although a whopping 48 percent said they would like one.

Cost seems to be the major factor, with 32 percent citing that as a reason for not taking the plunge.  Twelve percent claim the technology isn’t ‘up to snuff’, and a frankly shocking 35 percent just aren’t interested at all.  The tech geek side of me weeps!  One percent of UK respondents didn’t know what 3D TV is.  The equivalent figures for France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands tell a similar story.

Does anyone here have a 3D TV?  From what I’ve seen so far (games and movies wise) I would love a one, but I’m in the ‘too expensive’ camp at the moment.

  1. I’ve got one and its a great tv. My only gripe is the total lack of stuff thats actually out in 3D to make any use of it. There are no 3D blu-rays for sale anywhere as far as I can tell, and the best ones have to be brought with an actual tv! (eg. 3D Avatar being a Panasonic exclusive!, Monsters vs Aliens a Samsung exclusive). In terms of gaming its pretty poor as well. Cod:BO is in 3D but looks terrible, loads of crosstalk. The only games that work are the one’s supplied with a Sony TV, eg Wipeout and Motorstorm. I’ll have to see how GT5 works next week though.

    • What telly have you got. No hint of crosstalk on my bravia 903lx

      • Bravia hx803. I may be calling by the wrong time but the 3D breaks up sometimes and I get a ghosting effect, like a double image.

  2. I have a 3DTV

  3. Bunimo you’re assuming the sample is a representative sample. It’s difficult to get a representative sample with a small sample number, though not impossible. The sample used needs to reflect the group they’re sampling, with appropriate splits for gender, age, race, financial position etc. In general, where large planning to ensure accurate representation hasn’t occurred, the larger the sample size, the better the chances of it being representative of the group they’re sampling,

    • I am indeed making that assumption or we can’t discuss the topic at hand. If it’s good representation then we’re off to a great start. If not, as mentioned previously, you can load the results even just by looking to the wrong demographic (let alone asking the “right” questions).

  4. My 1080p plasma is still going strong, but it was ex-display and reduced to clear so I guess it’s not going to last as long as a new one. I think I’ll look at 3D when it needs replacing, as I can’t see it being a passing fad.

  5. anyone thinking about splashing out on a new 3dtv dont, i got arrested in dixons for that.

    • How?

    • Hahaha! In public, that’s just wrong! :-)

    • nice :D

    • Lol that’s funny yeah i don’t recommend on doing that

    • I got caught wanking in the newsagents. It was all over the papers the next day.

      • “Benefits scrounger found working job in the media” screamed the Mail

      • “Man caught w**king in newsagents, blame it on games” says the Daily Mail.

  6. dont think i’ll be buying a 3D tv for at least 2 years… thinking about buying an HD tv instead…
i’ll wait until the price drops…

    • Don’t just wait for the price to drop, like all things electrical the technology will get better.
The majority of the reviews I’ve read basically say wait for at least the next generation before buying as the picture (as well as other things) isn’t as sharp as the latest HD TVs.

  7. Do we want 3d tvs? NO says europe , it too much, No says mircosoft we use the tech later. Which is why i founded Rapture oh wait i,ve messed this joke up.

  8. I think it’s too expensive maybe when the price drops i might get one

  9. I still can’t see 3D Tv taking off for at least another couple of years. It’s too expensive, and most people don’t want the glasses.

  10. I would like one because ive had a demonstration 5 times in Comet but ive only had my current TV a year so can’t justify getting one yet.
