Kotaku is reporting this morning that EA Canada has been “working on a new SSX entry for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the past two years,” leading many to summise that the game that has been already outed in some form by the finding of several URLs earlier in the year might well be that The Planet thing that we mentioned last month, rather than something to do with Battlefield.
If it is, we’d much rather they focused on the crazy pinball bumpers and huge drops of the first couple of SSX games rather than the later few which were more ‘realistic’ in their approach and, in our opinion, less focused. Something that’s backed up by Kotaku claiming the new SSX will go “back to its roots” despite featuring “controls similar to EA’s Skate franchise.”
Earlier surveys to SSX fans hinted at a game that would feature an “intense, moment-to-moment battle against the forces created from riding your snowboard over the most spectacular and remote mountains on Earth” and would revolve around “avoiding, out-running and even riding on top of massive avalanches; battling hurricane winds; white-outs; bitter cold; falling rocks; and gaping crevasses that open up at a moment’s notice.”
Doesn’t sound like pinball bumpers to us. Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough when the Spike TV Video Game Awards air in the States later this week.

I really hope they haven’t changed this too much. Why is it publishers don’t listen sometimes? We want pinball and 100ft grinds on the roofs. With big air fans that take you to the top of the slope again, and loop da loops. I could go on with all this stuff, but they still won’t listen.

I have been waiting for this game for too long for EA to screw it up. Keep it as much like SSX Tricky (or 3, both were increidble) as possible gameplay wise, and I will pre-order it instantly.

Skate like controls !? Damn, I thought those were good for flips, but you don’t flip your board in snowboard. Hopefully the analog control is for punching opponents.

I can’t wait for this game, I haven’t played an arcade title in a while. Btw, I think the game will make good use of Right Analog stick controls.
