‘Mixed’ would be the way to describe the reaction to the SSX reveal over the weekend. Despite only being a very short CGI teaser trailer, it caused concern as it looked nothing like the SSX games we have grown up with.
EA has been talking about the game, and just why you find yourself stuck up a mountain:
“The team will travel the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them.
From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade.
The mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX: Deadly Descents the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.”

Sounds ace.

The scenario is sounding more heavily weighted than the fun factor that accompanied the original 4 games, between that and the Skate controls I’m losing interest despite it being my most looked forward to remake. Hopefully they do a HD Classics bundle of the original games

Seems that SSX has visited Polyphony Digital’s house of fun. Argh!
The game, itself, still sounds great but just not an SSX title. If I can’t do the funky chicken dance with JP then I’m going to drive a tank through France – 1940s style.

ah, memories…if only SSX Tricky worked on launch PS3s, I’d have nothing to worry about…

A survival horror snowboarding game? Well that’s got to be a first!
Charmed_Fanatic

Having not seen the trailer, this sounds good to me. Wanna see more about this though, I hope they don’t screw it up. I want a good SSX, and they want my money. Definitely want arcade over realism though.

Still dont think its going to beat SSX 2 for me

Nothing is ever going to beat tricky – as long as they find new ways of making something that’s impressive technically or by scale, they will never revert to the simpler formulas that made the games enjoyable to begin with.
Like Burnout, the fun and immediacy vanished when they made the structure free roam rather than menu-based.

I hope the game has killer penguins

I don’t want a Snowboarding Simulation game FFS. A simple HD Remake would be way better.

The third SSX where you could just go down the mountains was by far the worst. I hated all that free roam rubbish. Just give me the crazy neon cities of SSX:Tricky and I’ll be happy.
