Sony: PS Phone Is “Potential Opportunity”

Speaking at the 2011 CES Press Conference, Sony’s computer division boss has said that a PlayStation branded phone is a “potential opportunity” amongst “many opportunities” that they’ve been considering.

Sadly, Kunimasa Suzuki declined to comment further, but his words at least confirm that the company is interested, even if they were some way from flat-out saying “look, TSA, yes, it’s coming.”

Suzuki also mentioned the iPad – Sony is meant to be releasing a tablet PC themselves this year.  “For sure [it’s] the king of tablets,” he said of Apple’s device. “But what is the second, what is the third? Who is taking the second position?”

That is our focus,” he said. “We would like to really take the number two position in a year.”

CEO Howard Stringer said the company was biding its time and considering whether the tablet offering should have 3D capability. “If I want to differentiate it from others, do I release it tomorrow, or do I wait till I differentiate it?”

You just need Cut the Rope on it, Howard.
