While busy confirming that adolescent MMO Free Realms is going through its submission process and should pop its elfish head up on the PS3 in the next few months, SOE’s John Smedley also took the opportunity to provide some much needed intel on lost operative The Agency.
An MMO where two spy factions battle it out in an online persistent world, The Agency has been the victim of numerous vapor-ware claims in the past. Previously reported as coming in “the second half of this year,” Smedley is still buoyant about the prospect of a 2011 release. Just don’t ask him exactly when, as the President literally doesn’t know himself. He said:
Late this year. We’re not giving out a specific date yet because we don’t know it.
Smedley went on to confirm that there are also unannounced projects in development. How many? “Can’t even disclose a number,” he says, “but a lot.” Recently it came to light that SOE are also looking at the possibility of releasing fantasy MMO EverQuest III on the PS3.

Awesome!!!

Nice. I hope they do it right. I want an MMO for the PS3, and I think The Agency will be a better setting than DCU (personal preference).

Looks a bit like the Hellboy films for some reason….which is a good thing might one add.

Really looking forward to this. If SOE can deliver another MMO as good as DCUO within a year, I would doff my cap.

I really hope this turns out good, it’s been a long time coming though, I just hope this game lives up to the promise

This may sound dunce worthy, but what’s an MMO?
Kovacs
Massive Multiplayer Online game. Think World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, EverQuest, Lord of the Rings Online, and DC Universe to name a few. Levelling, grinding, divorce. Stuff like that.
:)
They actually come in many forms now. MAG is considered an FPS MMO (it has all the traits of the above), and Eve Online is a space strategy MMO.
Other MMOs from SOE include the aforementioned Free Realms, DC Universe and now this, The Agency.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is also an MMO. Okay, I’ll stop now.

Thanks; to be honest I’m not a big online gamer but I really like the look of The Agency so it my be the game that finally makes me make the leap from being a saddo, sitting alone in my room playing the single player campaign to becoming a saddo, sitting alone in my room playing with other people via that world wide interweb thingy-majigy… Technology today eh.

Massively rather than Massive I believe :)
