Mass Effect 2 Download Needs 24GB

Want to know how big Mass Effect 2 is from the PSN Store? 12GB, apparently, and that’s seemingly compressed as, according to the Store description, the game needs 24GB of  your precious hard drive space to stretch its arms once you’ve downloaded the thing.

We’ve already revealed that the disk-based version requires 4.5GB of your hard drive at least, which EA told us is down to the included DLC, so it’s pretty clear that the PS3 version needs to do some considerable hard-driving to keep the game running nice and slick.

As indeed it does, as our 10/10 review will attest, but then again perhaps it’s worth waiting a little while

  1. Damn it! I only have 1Gb free from my 40Gb HDD! The Gran Turismo 5 has already killed me with the HDD Space, then this one… it’s just… absurd o.O I have to get one 500Gb HDD!!!

  2. ” Hmm.. Perhaps it’s time to put a bigger HDD in my 60GB version. xD ”

    lucky sob XD
anyway glad I have a 300GB harddrive. when you have a harddrive that big you don’t need to worry about saving data.

  3. Thats taking the rise really. How did it fit on DVD for the XBox?

    • They didn’t have all of the DLC included on the disk. Although i doubt that will take up that amount of space so there is obviously other things included.

  4. Lol, i actually reclaimed about 25Gb of free space on my Hdd yesterday but i planned on that lasting me a while longer before having to upgrade. That huge install has decided it for me, i’ll be going with the disk version.

  5. Oh my… Imagine the future!

  6. It’s only 11GB on Steam…
    this is insane.

  7. It needs 24GB of space because the installer and the full game will (temporarily) both be on your hard drive. When it’s finished installing it’ll only take up 12GB.

    • This is the only sensible comment on here.

Nofi, you should probably look at clarifying the article, it’s misleading to imply the game will install to 24gb.

    • good to no thx.

    • That makes sense that the initial 12GB download will be deleted after installation but i would presume after de-compressing it would still result in a larger file than 12GB… Surely? We’ll know soon enough – as soon as someone with a fast connection downloads it that is. :)

  8. Sorry, but people complained about GT5? Just leave it installing, ALL DAY.

  9. Decision. Made.

  10. Nice compression if the download’s only 12GB and unpacks to 24….
