Dead Space Tops UK Chart

We were among those who lamented the, initially, relatively poor commercial success of the first Dead Space game. We knew it was brilliant and original so the fact that it didn’t sell as well as the multitude of sequels and re-hashes around at the time was a little disappointing, even though it seemed to have a “long tail” at retail.

So now we feel a little bit guilty for being so cheerful that the sequel has gone straight to the top of the UK all format charts. It’s an odd situation that the thing an imaginative, well made game needs to achieve top sales success is a sequel. There you have it though, perhaps we should celebrate Just Dance a little more, it manages to make it onto the chart with its sequel.

  1. Dead Space 2
  2. LittleBigPlanet 2
  3. FIFA 11
  4. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
  5. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  6. Just Dance 2
  7. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
  8. Wii Fit Plus
  9. Art Academy
  10. Just Dance

  1. Very glad to see it at the top of the table. Definitely deserves it.

  2. Loving the top 2 this week :) Both games deserve that one, especially Dead Space, just wish I had more time to play it! Damn the responsibilities of adulthood…

  3. I haven’t picked it up yet, enjoying ME2 too much!

    • ME2 was at number 11!

      • Mass Effect 2 is awesome!!

      • Do the numbers include downloads too? Cos if it does, ME2 won’t have picked up any from downloads. £47.99? You can go and suck my balls BioWare.

      • BioWare won’t have set the download price in any way. That’s a publisher/distributor decision. It’s most likely that EA set the final mark up on top of whatever Sony charges for hosting the download. BioWare just makes the game for EA to sell.

      • Then replace BioWare with EA then :P

      • It’s scary that ME2 has 197 ratings on the Store, and presuming 50% of people who bought it didn’t rate it, that’s 296 people who’ve spent £48 / €60 on the game. Granted, not a lot, but much more than I expected.

      • I was fairly cool toward ME2 at first, being much more interested in LBP2 and the sequel to the rather brilliant Dead Space. However, on a complete whim I bought it and OMG! It is utterly brilliant. Fantastic graphics, good controls (not overly keen on the croch/climb over which seems stupid), and a very well written and adult storyline. Not even the awful load times (despite a hige instal) have put me off.

      • I’m going to sack my typist :-/

  4. Bit of a shame DS2 isn’t top of the PC charts… Although I’m sure EA are laughing all the way to the bank regardless!

  5. Dead space 2 deserves the top spot. It’s really, really good.

  6. I’m torn between GT5 and DS2 at the mo. Bought DS2 on Friday, played for a few hours whilst the mrs was out (she hates Dead Space with a passion). Then Sunday was back to GT5, trying to win some B-spec races and level up to 30 in a-spec to try win the X2010.

I just plain don’t have enough gaming time at the mo. Really looking forward to getting stuck into Dead Space 2 however. Tried extraction out on the move, which also looks promising. I was hoping the mrs would have a play on that, but she actually leaves the room (in a grump) when the Dead Space disc comes out!!

  7. Hadn’t bought a game in months and was very proud how much money I had saved. Was asked by the Mrs to do the Tesco shop on Saturday and came out with Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2 ;D Haven’t had chance to start ME2 yet but the multiplayer for DS2 is incredibly enjoyable :)

  8. Even more reason to buy DS2! Loved the first one but I’ve pre-ordered KZ3 and can’t really afford both. Gutted.

  9. Fantastic. Thats all I have to say about the game and this news.

  10. Thats fantastic news about dead space 2 at the top of the charts, but wow….really surprised that mass effect is not in the top ten!

    • In its defense, it was released on one platform almost a year behind. Dead space 2 was released on three platforms in one go.
