More bad news for developers, publishers and probably honest gamers. We’re hearing reports that Killzone 3 has been ripped and uploaded to torrent sites for dishonest gamers to download and run on their hacked PS3s.
The file is apparently the EU version of the game and weighs in at a hefty 41.4GB (with a non-3D version available at roughly half that) so hopefully the size will be enough to put off most people who might otherwise have been tempted. If not, this is the first major leak on Sony’s console and is sure to be causing some distress behind the scenes at SCEE and Guerilla Games.
We’re sure it will be just another incentive for Sony to work doubly hard on counteracting the security holes that have appeared in the console over the past few months and we hope that a swift resolution can be found without further impacting on honest gamers’ experiences.
In the meantime, we urge all of our readers to support the industry and buy their games.

First Crysis and now this? Damn I feel for these devs. Just sickening.
Jas-n
Awesome, I know have a use for that 50GB BD-R I brought.
*Note Killzone 3 has been pre-ordered, but I do still need to find a way to fill that BD.
topgear
no. I did not download it because I do not have CFW and I don’t intend to either.
Redh3lix
It’s entirely the developers fault if they do not adopt enough security measures to stop an early build of their game reaching torrent sites. Stop blaming the people who download it, and take a good look at you’re own staff and security.
Jas-n
Sorry, developers?
Are we now having a go at the people who make the games we play?
The PS3 was secure up until a few months ago, when someone finally got in. And how many people are tight enough to not buy a game, but buy a BD-RE and a DL-BD to burn the game onto? There isn’t much point in spending time trying to implement measures to try and stop 0.0001% getting their hands on it illegally.
djhsecondnature
Congratulations. This is the most ignorant post of the day – and that is some feat.
BIGAL-1992
So what was the 2nd most ignorant post of the day?
Uhyve
Ah, it’s not really the Guerrilla’s fault, there’s a ton of points of failure with near final builds. Reviewers, testers (you’d be pissed if they didn’t do proper testing before release), certification, it could even be leaked from the disc pressers. There’s not really much they could do except hope for the best, I mean, there’s probably a good chance of them figuring out where the chain broke, but they can’t fully secure any of these leak channels.
plutoniumdragon
There’s some watermarking/tagging software which alleges to be able to track and trace BD/DVD masters of films. It’s more difficult to tag binary code without corrupting it, but maybe they can use that in the cutscenes and stuff…
hannes_truce
If people feel cheated by Sony for chopping and changing features of THEIR console when used on THEIR network, maybe they should have read the terms and conditions of use before blindly agreeing. You accepted them, therefore these griveances are down to YOU not sony. Ridiculous argument none the less.
Daywalker
here here! *Grumbles and bashes table like the house of commons beatdowns*
Jas-n
I presume somewhere in there it says Sony have the right to remove features without prior notice.
BIGAL-1992
Why thank you hannes for restoring order in what has become a haywired story.
Roynaldo
technically you arnt paying for software, you are paying for hardware. Software is an added extra that can be edited at the owners discretion, hence the T&Cs explaining so.
If the hardware is a problem, like the YLOD, then you are more than welcome to argue til your lips fall off but for software that is a free extra? Better get a walking stick coz you dont have a leg to stand.

http://www.oft.gov.uk/about-the-oft/legal-powers/legal/unfair-terms/guidance
Unfair Contract laws protect consumers against contract terms that attempt to take away statutory rights. This is actually the reason you’ll always see warranties advertised alongside a disclaimer which says that “this does not affect your statutory rights”.
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/layer?topicId=1074027367
I present to you, the Sale of Goods Act, a statutory right stating when a supplier sells a product it “must fit its description, be fit for its purpose and be of satisfactory quality”. I don’t know about you, but when I bought my PS3, I was told it was able to run Linux…
This is not only about what is morally right, but also what should be legal. Unfortunately, I don’t have the means to possibly take Sony to court over my PS3.
Daywalker
They didn’t advertise that it could Run Linux, that was found out after. Also, the reason they took OtherOS is due to the possibility of hacking ect.. They didn’t do this just to spite you.
If you’re going to keep bitching and moaning about Sony and the PS3 then just Fucking sell it.
MOVE
About the Linux issue: that only goes for pre-slim versions and the hacking and piracy goes for all versions.
I’m pretty sure Sony have investigated wether this will affect your statutory rights before making the firmwares.
About your previous comment about 5 pounds games; they don’t know if a game is succesfull, hence it would mean enormous losses and thereby layoffs if it didn’t. Besides, it seems to me that copy pirates will copy no matter what the cost of a game is. They are the ones who lack empathy.
teflon
Of course you do. Contact the Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them about your rights. If they believe that you would have a case, then you can take Sony to the Small Claims Court, and get yourself up to £1000 pounds. (I believe that to be the sum)
The Small Claims Court is done in such a way that you can represent yourself, and as long as you have your facts right, and win, then Sony have to pay.
Outside of that, there were reports not so long ago that people were using the SoGA in order to get a refund from certain retailers because of a decreased feature set following the removal of OtherOS.
I’m not saying that what Sony has done is right morally, but from my understanding, it’s legal.
Uhyve
I was really just messing around with the £5 game comment, I know that there is no way that would be a viable business model.
I guess I just can’t figure out how people can be cool with a company stealing features from the console you paid for. Even if you didn’t use the feature, they still devalued something that you paid for.
Question: Would you have a problem if they took away the music/movie/image playing abilities?
Note: I’m totally not trying to figure out if you can’t feel empathy.
BIGAL-1992
Answer: Nope, because I’ve got a PC and 360 to compensate for it.
Daywalker
Pictures, videos and music are features advertised in when the PS3 is being sold to make it a full media experience. I don’t see anywhere that Linux on PS3 is part of that? Yes I feel empathy but you are expecting me to basically feel sorry for you?
In terms of things the removal of Linux is like a tiny paper cut. Its nothing like having your leg ripped off (The media aspects), and there is no comparison at all.
Uhyve
Okay, let’s try this from another angle. Imagine, I’m a programmer, I’m experimenting with the IBM Cell SDK and I like to play games on the side. Then, Sony takes away my ability to run Linux. Now, put yourself in my shoes, how would you feel?
Honestly.
BIGAL-1992
How would I feel? Time to buy a console. Treat myself for once.
Daywalker
Well if you were a programmer then you’d contact Sony and ask to have that feature. If you had the credentials they would let you. Yes it would be an inconvenience, but the PS3 isn’t specifically designed for that use. If it were a job then you’d do as I just stated.
Uhyve
I don’t believe that you’d be fine with Sony making you buy a new console. I’m not a professional coder so I wouldn’t be able request a proper SDK but the Cell SDK included with Yellow Dog Linux was very cool and something you can’t use on a normal computer.
Jas-n
I’m sure if you wanted to continue coding you could have brought a dedicated PS3 for Cell SDKing.
Uhyve
I’m saying that I shouldn’t have to, because not everybody likes to throw money away…
I’ll ask again, if you were in this position, would you be totally cool with Sony removing the OtherOs feature?
AG2297
Yes because the console was not advertised as being for that purpose and I could still continue using Linux, I just cant download the new firmware which would be fine for them.
End.
Uhyve
Oh my god, you guys aren’t willing to budge an inch. We all know Sony advertised the PS3 as having that feature and if I wanted to keep playing games (one of the other advertised features), I had to give up that feature. It’s not right.
BIGAL-1992
I will put it to you bluntly why we’re not budging an inch; We. Don’t Care. OK? You’ve been dragging this out for almost eight hours now. I don’t want to hear any more of this and probably do several other people here.
End.
Uhyve
I guess I just like to have the last word and you guys just keep replying to me… guess you care alittle bit…
*awaits response*
MOVE
The word empathy and it’s meaning just seems quite out of place in this subject.
It they took away movie and music options (bluray drive) it would not be a PS3 anymore. Without Linux it’s still a PS3. And the Linux still only counts for the older versions and I don’t know anybody who used that feature. Neither personally nor among my customers in the retailer jobs I had and have.
Daywalker
I concur with that.
Greek-BBQ
Either people are getting poorer so can’t afford to buy games, or people are getting lazier and can’t be bothered to go to the shops these days.
Just buy the real game! One day the developers will turn their backs and say “We’re not going to produce any more games due to piracy issues.” Then people will cry :P
BIGAL-1992
Actually, I’d hire a team of hitmen and make the person who leaked this ‘disappear’.
BG123
The only people who pirate games are the kind of wierd, deformed, gyppo freaks that regularly sell tat at car boot sales. and the only people who buy pirated games are the kind of wierd, deformed, gyppo freaks that regularly buy tat at car boot sales.
Pretty much all normal people just buy them from shops/internet
BG123
and KZ3 dosen’t have to worry anyway, coz pirates would all have the 360 (the cheapest, so trampy wierdos all have them) ;)
The Solid one
I hope the pirates end up with a crap load of viruses. This is a middle finger to hardworking developers and chances are that the pirates will try to hack the game and ruin the online side of it. Blasted Pirates.GRRR.
Kaminari
Ironically, most if not all early leaks come from press releases.
And that’s not a wild guess. It’s (unfortunately) a fact.
Dange
Shame really, hope this isn’t the way things are going to start going now.
I for 1 will always buy an original new copy of a game, just don’t like copies.
In fact I still pay for my music and I am probably in the minority but I always buy music on CD’s then rip it to my PS3/mobile phone rather than buy on MP3 as I like having the physical copy, not the same otherwise.
Back on topic, I’m sure most people will just buy the game if they want the game, seems like too much hassle anyways.
