Marvel and Activision Announce ‘Spider-Man: Edge of Time’

Marvel and Activision have today announced the latest game in the Spider-Man franchise, titled ‘Edge of Time’. Developed by Beenox, the bods behind Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, players will “take on the roles of both classic Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 to correct a timestream gone awry and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the early and untimely death of Peter Parker.”

The game features all-new “cause-and-effect” gameplay, where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man.

This has the potential to be great as Shattered Dimensions, despite a few flaws, was an enjoyable and varied game.

Edge of Time is set to release this fall. No specific platforms were mentioned.

  1. Presumably this isn’t open world then? Spiderman lends itself so well to open world gameplay.

Also this “cause and effect” thing could either be amazing or it could be (as I’m expecting) a gimmick that has some very trivial changes that ultimately effect the gameplay in noway. Call me a cynic…

    • Okay, you’re a cynic.

      And probably right.

  2. Shizzle need to get Shattered Dimensions!

  3. Shatterted Dimensions was a great game, I really loved it and will definitely be giving this new Spidey game a whirl.

  4. So any mention of whether this actually ties in with Shattered Dimensions in any way? i.e. will 2099 spiderman have any recollection of previous events etc?

  5. Is shattered dimensions worth picking up then?

    • Yes Great Game

      • Think I’ll give it a try too.

    • I liked it yeah. Would go as far as to say that it’s the best Spiderman game since Spiderman 2 (but it isn’t better than Spiderman 2 though).

      • I thoroughly enjoy it and still have it in my possesion. I’m aiming to get 5 stars in all missions =D
Great Game and should be dirt cheap too!

  6. Gaming world says: “Meh.”

  7. Loved Shattered Dimensions, so looking forward to this one.

  8. Shattered Dimensions was so refreshing compared to the last few Spidey games we’ve had. Although I positively hated 2099 Spider-Man, I’m so disappointed they’ve stuck with him and not Noir. Noir was my favourite part! Still, will look this up

    • Yeah, I am a bit disappointed by this too – Ultimate or Noir would have been better choices.

      What’s the betting that they just polled a section of kids in one area;
      Activision/Beenox – “which is best?”
Kids – “That one (pointing to 2099)”
      Activision/Beenox – “why?”
Kids – “He has a cooler suit”
Activision/Beenox – “Oh. Better be that one then.”

Unfortunately, the more i think about it, the more it seems viable! :(

      • noir could kinda fit in since he is 1930’s or they could pull out the medievil spiderman and shock us all

      • Haha! Yeah, I see what you mean, I suppose it makes sense to have the current Spiderman and a future incarnation, instead of one from the past, ie Noir. And Ultimate isn’t a different time-zone, I don’t think, so it wouldn’t make sense. But, I’m sure if they continue in the direction they were heading, Activision can pull off another solid Spidey game! :D

  9. so there’ll be this, then the inevitable movie tie in?
that’ll ensure quality for both games. o_O

  10. We really do need a new “Spiderman 2”. I fluffing loved that game, kept going back just to help out the citizens from time to time and swinging pretty much wherever I wanted to go was awesome.
