Sony Santa Monica Working On A Shooter/Vehicle Combat Game?

When one thinks of Sony Santa Monica the first thing that springs to mind is Kratos’ epic God of War adventures. It looks like the studio is taking a step away from that franchise, at least for the time being, with a couple of new job listings outing some interesting information.

Firstly the team are looking for someone who ideally has experience working with, developing or designing for a 1st and/or 3rd person shooter. They then cite that experience working with, developing or designing vehicle combat in a game is a plus point.

A second job listing states that experience in designing or contributing to the development of an “open world” game is a plus. By the sounds of it this new project is a massive leap from God of War.

Unless Kratos is going ‘street’.

  1. Do we have another Borderlands and Rage game ?

    • Borderlands! First thing that popped into my mind when I read this. I’m not complaining. Borderlands is one of my favourite games of this generation and more good games of this sort are always a good thing.

  2. God of War IV: Kratos’ Journey Through Time and Space

You know it to be true ;)

  3. Lets keep it locked, bet its a good one :-)

  4. Excited to hear more about this.

  5. Please don’t be set in a wasteland-type environment. I’m getting tired of those.

  6. Sweettooth spinoff?

  7. Be lovely to see this small(ish) genre getting some serious love. From the deliberate (and beautifully executed) Vigilante 8 to the frenetic nature of Twisted Metal. There’s plenty of room for all newcomers. :-)

    • I want another Carmageddon game, Blood Drive was fun but a bit boring.

  8. I swear I’ve commented on Santa Monica related articles here at least a few times. Everyone seems to forget that Santa Monica’s first PS3 game was indeed Warhawk (they co-developed it with Incognito, look it up for yourself or simply insert disc if you own it).

I am almost 100% certain this is for the spiritual successor of Warhawk in the works by Lightbox Interactive (formerly Incognito) once again with the help of Santa Monica. That clears up the 1st/3rd person shooter and vehicle combat part. Also if any of you remember the singleplayer that was going to be in Warhawk before it got canned, it was an open world battlefield.

So there you go. I’ll be back next time you forget that Santa Monica doesn’t only do God of War.

    • to be fair it’s not just TSA that forgets this, a lot of gaming news sites do as most are a little unfamiliar with the beginning stages of the PS3 era. Wasn’t attacking TSA by any means, just providing some insight :-)

  9. Bring back Kinetica!
