Some PSN Services To Return ‘This Week’

In a press release posted on the EU Blog, Sony has said that some PSN services will return this week, although the Store will be later.

Services up soon, then, include:

• Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
• This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
• Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
• Access to account management and password reset
• Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
• PlayStation®Home
• Friends List
• Chat Functionality

They also talk about the increased security measures, including a new firmware which will force a reset and will require access to the email address for that account OR access to the PS3 that account was set up on.

In addition, Sony have:

• Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
• Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
• Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
• Implementation of additional firewalls

To tempt people back onto the PSN, Sony are working to provide some adde value and goodies. These aren’t concrete yet, but for those that like bulletpointed lists, these will be based around PlayStation Plus and include:

• Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
• All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
• Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

It’s not apparent from the press release what the hackers actually got, we’ll probably never find out the exact details, but does the above satisfy you guys?

  1. All sounds good, with ps plus i’ve had free stuff for ages i just want my psn back.

  2. It’s a tough spot Sony are in. The statement contains a lot of humility, a nicely worded apology would have been good but yeah it seems like a decent response. I’m still on board, just cancelled my card and registered with Equifax should the worst happen, double-durexed and ready to rock.

  3. Great start, lets go Sony. Lets keep it moving. Playstation forever. Right im off to meadowhall.

    • Your more likely to lose your CC details there than in any PSN hack!

  4. I wonder what they will do with the Plus content. I imagine… they will get all of April’s content and add it on to May’s, may the dual-month Plus content available once the store is up, including the 15 month deal. Then, give everyone the free month of Plus in June which will have LOADS of content to try and get them back on Sony’s side, and also encourage them to renew their Plus membership.

    • “make the dual-month” sorry, not “may the dual-month”

  5. I`m satisfied, i just want to get back to playing BC2 online :)

  6. It’s a shame that the games we’ll probably get for free are likely to be the ones in the special offers bin.

    • little mermaid on the ps1 never interested you? Or how about Hercules lol

      • thats p+ in a nutshell & discount on very old dlc
(im a member before the flaming starts)

      • @8-ball.

How can you say discounts on old dlc when this month I bought Dungeon Hunter:Alliance AND Clash of Heroes, both fab games, both brand new and both with decent ps+ discounts. Maybe in the past they weren’t great but this is a step in the right direction in my books.

      • ok chill… new great, however ive never heard of these titles, which leads me to believe they are low budget ones.

      • my 1st year sub is nearly over, in the right direction perhaps, but they need to steps at a quicker pace. 1st yr should.ve packed a punch not a slap.

  7. I am just glad it’s coming back. Can’t wait for a bit of MK King of the Hill!

  8. This is good although to me this wasn’t that big of a deal they got hacked once since the PSN has been up and running and although everybody has been saying it allot this stuff happens everything gets hacked but if it starts to happen more often then it’s not nice

  9. Yes, I am satisfied and I can’t wait for PSN to come back online

  10. Sweet!

A month of ps plus is defo in there favours though! Lol 4 weeks of content then you loose it unless you fork out £40.
