Some PSN Services To Return ‘This Week’

In a press release posted on the EU Blog, Sony has said that some PSN services will return this week, although the Store will be later.

Services up soon, then, include:

• Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
• This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
• Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
• Access to account management and password reset
• Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
• PlayStation®Home
• Friends List
• Chat Functionality

They also talk about the increased security measures, including a new firmware which will force a reset and will require access to the email address for that account OR access to the PS3 that account was set up on.

In addition, Sony have:

• Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
• Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
• Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
• Implementation of additional firewalls

To tempt people back onto the PSN, Sony are working to provide some adde value and goodies. These aren’t concrete yet, but for those that like bulletpointed lists, these will be based around PlayStation Plus and include:

• Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
• All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
• Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

It’s not apparent from the press release what the hackers actually got, we’ll probably never find out the exact details, but does the above satisfy you guys?

  1. What the f*ck i can’t remember my password for my ps3 account and for the email i used. does that mean i can’t play online? if so this is gay

    • No :| open a new account

    • So you can’t remember your PSN pass and you can’t access your email for your PSN account… Yeah sure Sony is here to blame.

What if your PS3 broke down or your HDD died, what would you have done then?

If you really are that clueless, then contact Sony when PSN is back up and maybe they can help you.

    • What’s gay about your memory?

    • It depends. 99.9% is that in order to change your password when you log into PSN next, you’ll have to enter the password manually, rather than rely on your PS3 to auto-login.

However, I’m sorry to say that if you’ve forgotten the passwords, then the blame rests on your shoulders. The provisions have always existed to change the email address attached to your PSN account, so if you’re moving to a new service, you should have changed the email for this instance.

It’s possible that getting in touch with Sony may help you, though obviously they will be swamped by people in the same situation as you, and it will be difficult for them to distinguish between valid claims and those trying to screw someone else over.

  2. on the ps internet browser it said were going to start turning the services on region by region how are they going to work out who gets turned back on 1st so usa i would of thought has biggest online players surely we must be second on list maybe france or are they going to turn a small region on to try it out …….turn on first AND THTAS ALL SHE SAID

    • Europe is probably the PS3’s biggest user base outside of Japan. And, please can you punctuate your comments?

      • Europe definitely has the largest user base .

  3. I find it a shame and an insult to common sense that so many TSA and PS.blog apologetists feel “blessed” and “happy” to be Sony customers after how said Sony treated us and handled this clusterfuck. Are you that blind to accept simple apologies and a pathetic PS+ subscription?

To me, it’s not about compensation — I can’t care less about getting free avatars for a month. It’s about Sony betraying the fundamental trust I had put in those clowns and irresponsible corporate amateurs. Nothing can repair that. Except a complete staff makeover.

I want Stringer to fire Hirai & co. and put someone responsible in charge. That’s what will make everyone truly move on.

    • Sony got hacked!? where’s the problem? ARe you victim of fraud because of this matter? If not then what ya moaning about?

    • Imagine if Sony didn’t say anything apart from “PSN maintenance in April for 2 weeks”. You’d be none the wiser to all the media and forum bordem.P’

    • Meh. It is completely _your_ fault to put your “fundamental trust” in that. No one forced you to do that, surely?

  4. So, for non PS+’ers Sony is effectively lending you a game for a month, then taking it back. Way to say sorry.

    • No, I’m sure that when downloading some(definately not all) of the free games on Plus it does actually state that they are for keeps and are not membership dependant. I don’t remember which games exactly but you can find out though as it is stated in the description next to the download button.
Pretty clever move though by giving people a months sampler of cloud saving (if that’s included)….I wonder how many will sign up when the month is up just to keep their clouds :P

  5. Im pleased that its coming back and that will lead to less people (including myself) complaining.

personally i just want this news to end so that we can get excited for E3 and not the return of the network.

  6. I think that’s pretty nice of them. Even if it is a little pointless since the store won’t be up to actually use any plus stuff. Patches though, yay.

  7. wil it be possible to buy things through home ???
since the store will be out ?

  8. Needs to hurry up, been nearly 2 weeks. I miss me some online play.

  9. all psn accounts will be restet and the online date

  10. have they hacked agen
