Some PSN Services To Return ‘This Week’

In a press release posted on the EU Blog, Sony has said that some PSN services will return this week, although the Store will be later.

Services up soon, then, include:

• Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
• This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
• Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
• Access to account management and password reset
• Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
• PlayStation®Home
• Friends List
• Chat Functionality

They also talk about the increased security measures, including a new firmware which will force a reset and will require access to the email address for that account OR access to the PS3 that account was set up on.

In addition, Sony have:

• Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
• Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
• Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
• Implementation of additional firewalls

To tempt people back onto the PSN, Sony are working to provide some adde value and goodies. These aren’t concrete yet, but for those that like bulletpointed lists, these will be based around PlayStation Plus and include:

• Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
• All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
• Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

It’s not apparent from the press release what the hackers actually got, we’ll probably never find out the exact details, but does the above satisfy you guys?

  1. one major feature i wanted to be announced (feature available in japan)
all reg users get the option to change/modify their psn id.
as said before, we dont know if when your online, people see your id & know your personal details to match that id.
(then i was going to change my 6thax id, as same applies here)

  2. Not a bad offering, however unless they just credit customers accounts with a nominal fee to purchase what they wish they will not satisfy everyone.
i.e. if they gave away WipeOutHD for free then it would be meaningless to me as i have had that since day one.

PS+ for free is a strange one, some people are not at all interested in the service, still something for nothing is better than nowt

  3. To the guy wondering about titles where you need a code to play online such as mortal kombat, I believe the part that says titles that require online verification under services up soon should mean you will be okay. That’s how I read it anyway!

  4. Well I must although I might start using PSN cards from now on, offering 30 days ps+ to everyone is a jolly good move. And extra goodies sounds good too. Hopefully they’ve learned from this debacle.

    • Nah Sony ain’t learnt a lesson I reckon!?

I’ll still be using the same card that is still registered to my account.

      • I don’t understand your comment. Was it a statement or a question?

      • It was clearly a questment! :-P

      • Please try not to feed this Troll. He has a habit of fanning the flames. Don’t you Fattyuk?

    • Pot kettle black??

  5. Nice one Sony :)

  7. Has anybody else seen this

i still don’t understand why cant they just sub these things

    • “However, at the 61:10 mark, Hasejima corrected Hirai’s answer and said that passwords were not encrypted, but were hashed.”

Well that’s good. It’s not perfect, but a billion times better then them storing it in clear text.

  8. just glad its coming back not interested in moaning any more.

    • exactly… online gaming(my fav) & a more secure system, im happy with that.
      kz3 online, missed you:)

  9. Can’t wait for PSN!

  10. MADNESS! 30 days to ALL!? That’s going to take lots of bandwidth to give to 77 million users.

    • No offense but there’s not 77 million user!!!! LOL
