PS3 Fires Back Up, No Sign Of Europe, Yet

As Dan posted overnight, if you switch on your PS3 and navigate over to the System Software update section, you’ll be able to grab a brand new firmware update – 3.61.

At the moment, this is optional for us Europeans – the PSN itself is still, at the time of writing at least, down.  However, by grabbing the firmware now you’ll be in better shape for getting back online when it fires back up.

When will that be?  Well, it’s already started happening – some users in the States are already back up and running, and whilst the process will be a ‘phased’ one we’re not expecting Europe to be too far behind.

So, first up – grab the firmware.  We’re hoping that Europe will be back in the game later today or tomorrow and then – finally – we’ll all be able to play some online gaming.

But before that, you’ll need to reset your password.  Once PSN is back, and you’ve got the firmware, you’ll be able to attempt to sign in (with your old username and password) at which point the PS3 will force you to reset your password.

  1. Tried logging in with my US account, which didn’t work (as expected), so it does look like they are enabling regions by their physical location as opposed to what sort of PSN account you have.

    • It never occurred to me to try that! Duh.

  3. Wondering how Norway’ll come out of this… I’m more than capable of handling the PSN being down for the all of us, but if you have it, and I don’t, even if only for a couple of hours? Actually I guess that’d be ok…

  5. downloaded the firmware still “undergoing maintenance” but all in good time,
    yesterday i had a different error code than the usual maintenace one so i thought it could be up soon :)
    got exams for two weeks from monday so great timing sony

  7. God why did they have to turn on America first?! Now the European blog is full of Americans chanting “USA USA USA” and my personal favourite: “(AMERICA) Land of freedom, Land of peace, and Land of first. its only in AMERICA!!”. Ugh.

      • If people are happy then that is fine, and you would say things such as “Great PSN is back” or “Now I can play games”. Why would you bring your country into it? And brag like it is some sort of birth right that it happened to you before others.

  9. Well just get the online game playing up 1st i think + i hope SONY keeps a eye out for more attacks because i am sure people want them to fail[you know who] i.e the games console that got dumped in to 3rd place last month worldwide…say no more… :D

  10. No store = no online pass, no DLC, no need for PSN. Fuck.

      • People from USA on Mortal Kombat forums report that even though online is restored they can’t redeem any code, online pass or DLC.

    • They said it would take a little longer to get the store online.

      • The question is – just how long? Because without store PSN is useless if you have any games with online pass.

    • Thats true, I don’t care about online gaming, I just want the store back

    • I feel your pain Gremlin. I want to get myself on Mortal Kombat for the sake of you lot as much as my own. Good thing is I can battle it out on Killzone fairly well now everyone has gotten some rust build up :)
