PS3 Fires Back Up, No Sign Of Europe, Yet

As Dan posted overnight, if you switch on your PS3 and navigate over to the System Software update section, you’ll be able to grab a brand new firmware update – 3.61.

At the moment, this is optional for us Europeans – the PSN itself is still, at the time of writing at least, down.  However, by grabbing the firmware now you’ll be in better shape for getting back online when it fires back up.

When will that be?  Well, it’s already started happening – some users in the States are already back up and running, and whilst the process will be a ‘phased’ one we’re not expecting Europe to be too far behind.

So, first up – grab the firmware.  We’re hoping that Europe will be back in the game later today or tomorrow and then – finally – we’ll all be able to play some online gaming.

But before that, you’ll need to reset your password.  Once PSN is back, and you’ve got the firmware, you’ll be able to attempt to sign in (with your old username and password) at which point the PS3 will force you to reset your password.

Managed to get online?  Keep everyone updated in the comments.

  1. personally I could care less about dlc and codes I just wanna sync my trophys an get my game face on!

    • I’ve only had about 30 trophies during downtime so not much to see there, I thought there was a lot more, but it’d still be nice to get them synced and see the new system working ok.

    • It’s COULD’NT care less! God!

      • lol make like a tree and get outta here!

      • you mean “couldn’t”… lol… although that doesn’t sound right… if you could not care less you’d be caring more as “not less” is more :)

      • Actually it’s ‘couldn’t’ – your apostrophe is in the wrong place. I love it when people correct others and the advice they give is wrong!

      • Only a caring person could talk to a tree…more or less.

      • that’s always been something that puzzled me

surely if you could not care any less, it means care=0 and you can’t care in the minus :) and if you could care less, it would mean you currently care but you could tone down how much you care.

In any case, I always say “couldn’t care less”…usually with the apostrophe in the right place :P

      • It’s “couldn’t care less”. It means you could not care any less than you currently care. Because you don’t care, at all. It’s the divide by zero of the grammar world.

  2. Europe is second on the list!?:O tis unheard of. Did i just see a fly pig go past my window? Even if it does go up today,i won’t have time for it due to the amount of work i need to do.

    • Where is that list?

      • Like Santa, Sony don’t disclose their Naughty and Nice list to everyone

      • I read it somewhere too, think it’s on the US blog I got it.

      • The order of countries was mentioned on the blog. “The Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Middle East, Japan, other Asian territories.” Kovacs

  3. So, being in Canada, it was download the new update first (took about 9 minutes last night just after midnight) and wait till this morning for it not to say “under maintenance” still. Finally, it gives you an email for a new password change and voila! Your online after doing the necessary changes. Kind of anti climactic as the store isn’t up yet but hey- it’s a start right? Hopefully you guys get everything sorted across the pond.

    • That’s gonna be a headache for the Sony helplines with all the people that have changed E-Mail addresses since signing up but kept their original as a login id.
Thanks for the heads up though, will keep an eye on the inbox ;)

      • You should only get an email if you never downloaded/bought anything from the PSN store, for some odd reason. Otherwise when you sign back in it’ll ask you for a new password, you don’t even need to type in your old one, so if you have it saved and don’t remember it, it’s no problem.

    • Actually, you get an email from playstation network to go to the website and change your password online- you DON’T change it on your console. The only thing you do on your console is fill in your correct bday and email addy then they send you the link for changing it. Hope this helps.

      • “If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN.” I’m not going to call you wrong because I realise that every region might be difderent, but maybe you should by more stuff from the PSN :)
