PS3 Fires Back Up, No Sign Of Europe, Yet

As Dan posted overnight, if you switch on your PS3 and navigate over to the System Software update section, you’ll be able to grab a brand new firmware update – 3.61.

At the moment, this is optional for us Europeans – the PSN itself is still, at the time of writing at least, down.  However, by grabbing the firmware now you’ll be in better shape for getting back online when it fires back up.

When will that be?  Well, it’s already started happening – some users in the States are already back up and running, and whilst the process will be a ‘phased’ one we’re not expecting Europe to be too far behind.

So, first up – grab the firmware.  We’re hoping that Europe will be back in the game later today or tomorrow and then – finally – we’ll all be able to play some online gaming.

But before that, you’ll need to reset your password.  Once PSN is back, and you’ve got the firmware, you’ll be able to attempt to sign in (with your old username and password) at which point the PS3 will force you to reset your password.

Managed to get online?  Keep everyone updated in the comments.

      • It used to work fine, but I too, have been getting a white page for nearly a month. Similar to all of a sudden, not being able to enter text, on youtube search bar.

  5. *app* before I’m corrected!

  6. I’m from the UK but live in Pennsylvania and the PSN is back online so I’m showing some solidarity with my countrymen and not going online… yeah, that’s right… solidarity… that’s why I’m not online gaming right now. It has nothing to do with the fact that I have to work for the rest of the day ;)

  7. Awwww gutted, I was getting all hyped about being able to finally play some Mortal Kombat online, and it’s just dawned on me that I still wont be able to as I will need to redeem the code from the store!

Ah well I guess it’s better than no access whatsoever.

    • Yet another flaw in the online pass system that only punishes people who buy the game legitimately.

Oh well, fingers crossed I can get the Portal 2 co-op finished with my brother tonight.

  8. Great news. Shame the store won’t be up wanted to download my extras for ME2.

  9. Anyone who’s bought brink, enjoy.

    • id do that thing that people do with the plusage and the oneage but ive put it into a whole sentence so im not a dick now…..right? ;)

    • Do you need an online pass for Brink?

      • No pass needed for Brink.

Those of us that have the special edition will have to wait to redeem the extra content though.

    • who’s – *who has

      • Not sure why you corrected yourself. Who’s is a valid word, and you used it here correctly. Now, if you had said “whose” bought Brink, I would have had to deploy the ninja grammar monkeys.

  10. O_o needs to get back to helghan!
