It has been a long time since we’ve had a new Pikmin game (the Wii re-releases don’t count), although it has been hinted at several times.
It turns out that indeed a new game is in the works, but for the Wii U. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto had the following to say:
“as we’ve been working on the Wii U I’ve gotten a look at the fancy new graphics and the new controller, I got the feeling it’s the perfect game for that system, so we’re going to make it on that.
There are two sides to me today, the corporate side that wants to follow the precedent we set for E3 of not announcing any titles, and the creative side of me that wants to tell you we’re working on Pikmin.“
For those who have never played any of the Pikmin franchise, the idea behind the game sees you lead groups of ‘Pikmin’ in an effort to collect items and clear obstacles. Pikmin come in various forms, each with their own special ability, and it’s down to you to split them into groups and assign them multiple tasks to do.
Think of it as an RTS with less guns, more flowers.
