GRID Servers Closed

Codemasters have decided to close down the multiplayer servers for their 2008 game, Race Driver: Grid on PS3 and PC, although the Xbox 360 servers remain running as normal according to MCV.

“After three years of service, 2008’s Race Driver: GRID’s online play service has been discontinued for the PS3 and PC editions of the game,” say Codemasters.

Some people will be very disappointed with this; there are still people in my friends list who play this from time to time. In fact, some people are very disappointed and haven’t hesitated in showing this, taking to the Codemasters forums in order to complain, in true internet style.

What do you think? Is GRID past its time and should the online have been put to sleep, or are Codemasters neglecting the fans?

Should they have kept them open until a sequel surfaces?

  1. Closed!? Dang it! I was considering buying it even i didn’t like it, but no… not anymore.

  2. Aren’t all the xbox servers run by MS with the exception of EA and as such would require MS to shut the game down.

    • i thought most live games used P2P with the exception of studios who choose to use there own servers. maybe thats why live isnt effected because it still uses P2P?

  3. WTF, I had loads of memories on GRID, GRID was the game that got me hooked to online gaming, before it was just once a month on completing a story mode but when my friend said try out the GRID demo, I was hooked to the demo and then i got the full game.
