So oddly I didn’t decide on Split/Second for this week’s WeView by actually looking at comments on yesterday’s verdict. Instead I noticed that people seemed to clamouring for it in the news about the new studio coming out of Black Rock.
Yes, it seems that some of you want to look at the game that we rated at a stellar 10/10. Well it’s only understandable that you want to rave about the game, we certainly did.
In Split/Second, Blackrock Studios have created a truly gorgeous game and I’m not just talking about the quite frankly stunning graphics, but instead the finely tuned balance between the action and racing genre. In most racers, perfecting racing lines whilst holding off competitors jockeying for position is as good as it gets but here that is just the start as you have to master the art of drifting to build up Power Plays, which unleash some of the most awesome set-pieces yet seen in a videogame.
With this title Blackrock Studios have established themselves as a studio to watch out for, and in Split/Second they have delivered the most action packed racer this generation.
With such high praise it’s certainly depressing that Black Rock are no more. We may have said they were worth keeping an eye on, but clearly Disney didn’t agree with us. Of course, perhaps you don’t either, and now’s your chance to lets us know.
Just head over to the forums and leave us your thoughts on the game. Whilst I’m not going to discount longer reviews, please remember that the aim is for short, snappy opinions. More than that I simply don’t have the time to wade through longer reviews, so if you want to have your opinion included in the verdict post try to keep it short.
Once you’ve written your review make sure you give it a score on the Buy It, Bargain Bin It, Rent It, Avoid It scale. Remember, if you want your score and opinion included in Monday’s verdict post you need to have it done by Sunday afternoon, otherwise I’ll have written it and you’ll be left out in the cold.

So much of my friend list [PS3] were playing this the other day, perhaps in light of the server shutdown thing. I’ll be interested in the results.
Forrest_01
Not sure if it was last night you are thinking of, but i held a s/s meet last night. :)
sanmartinez
I think that may be the case =)

I missed that news, I’ve heard that the Grid servers were shutting down but S/S server closing after this short amount of time…If that’s the case then it’s a bad sign!
freezebug2
That is, I’d have thought that the server could have somehow continued to operate even after Black Rock were finished.
Forrest_01
Not that I need to speak on gideon’s behalf, but I suspect what he meant was with the Grid server shutdown people may have been playing it just in case other games were to follow.
I certainly haven’t heard anything about a S/S server shutdown, but with Blackrock no longer in existence, I can kinda see why people may be thinking along these lines.

I think that you are right, after reading the comment again I can see how it could have two different interpretations.
Thanks, for clearing things up ;)

I just started playing this yesterday! What a coincidence! Love it so far. About half way through the season.
