WeView: Killzone 3

After a less than stellar turnout for Split/Second, it seems like it’s time to turn to a blockbuster title. Killzone 3 is the obvious choice, it’s certainly a community favourite here at the TheSixthAxis, along with its predecessor. Of course, being a favourite amongst readers doesn’t guarantee it an easy ride, and hopefully it’ll generate a range of opinions.

As is the custom with WeView, let’s take a look back at what we thought of the game when we cast our eye over it at release. We were very impressed by the game, scoring it all the way up at 9/10.

Killzone 2 fans will lap up this continuation of one of the PS3′s best games. It’s a well made game with a much better story, more rounded characters and oodles more variety.

Gone are the sole dull greys and browns of Helghan of old, the planet now serving up rich jungles and snowy outposts in amongst the heavy metal of the urban settings, and it’s all the better for it. It’s not perfect, but it’s smart enough to know that, instead offering a ballistic run-through that’ll keep you busy until it’s complete.

And then there’s Elite mode, and that all-encompassing multiplayer…

Things are looking good for Guerrilla Games’ latest shooter from a review stand point, but the real question is will you agree with us? Do you feel we got it right, or were we completely wide of the mark? Could you just not understand the score? Well now’s your chance to let us know.

Just head over to the forums and leave us your thoughts on the game. Whilst I’m not going to discount longer reviews, please remember that the aim is for short, snappy opinions. More than that I simply don’t have the time to wade through longer reviews, so if you want to have your opinion included in the verdict post try to keep it short.

Once you’ve written your review make sure you give it a score on the Buy ItBargain Bin ItRent ItAvoid It scale. Remember, if you want your score and opinion included in Monday’s verdict post you need to have it done by Sunday afternoon, otherwise I’ll have written it and you’ll be left out in the cold.

  1. Killzone 3 is one of PS3’s crown jewels in my opinion so it’s just a shame so many people I know can’t see beyond the box not having Call of Duty written on it and discover a great campaign and MP experience

    • I stopped playing KZ2 after a few missions because I thought it was pretty dull. I just don’t see what is supposed to make this game better than any other shooter out there. Guess it’s just me…

      • @KeRaSh – In a word: Multiplayer.

Campaign is cool, but multiplayer is where this game shines. Best on any console … in my opinion.

      • Ditto. Plus the 3D is freakin sweet! ;)

      • I don’t care about competitive MP. Give me local coop and I’m happy.

      • @KeRaSh there is local coop in Killzone 3…just so you know

    • Killzone 3, the greatest fps campaign and greatest multiplayer game out to date. Period. Get these games in your life. They are truly epic…..

  2. I hate how the camera is very near and doesn’t show you a wide area of view in killzone 3, am I alone in this or am I crazy?

    • the perspective is different but only to cod games. if you play any other fps then its pretty similar . unfortunately cod is the standard by which all are compared to, wrongly imo.

    • you are not crazy, the camera isnt as wide as other FPS’s but it doesn’t bother me at all

    • Granted, the camera isn’t as wide as say, COD, but that didn’t bother me at all when I played it.

  3. You’re crazy. The camera is fine.

  4. Great game to have a WeView on but im sure its going to be a BUY IT without a doubt. Great single player action and huge online community and with the best priced DLC ;)

  5. Bargain Bin it. It’s no where near as good as KZ2. I loved KZ2, but this game is no where near as good. The MP is terrible, the changes made the game worse, not enjoyable for me at least. The SP I found was more varied and had more colour, but again, pretty boring. Such a shame.

  6. BIG dissapointment. After the superb K2, Guerrilla screwed this one big time, IMO. Boring and stupid storyline, same crappy characters, very repetitive gameplay and terrible on-the-rails cuts together with a much worse multiplayer makes it a “rent it” in most cases.

A real pity, i was really looking forward to it.

  7. Great game, best played with Move and 3D.

My only gripe would be why have they only just put squad chat back in, it worked great in KZ2.

    • how is it with move, i have the move controller but no sub, does the dualshock work well with it? scrap that im just going to try it now

      • Get the sharpshooter. It’s brilliant. Reduce the bounding box to as small as it goes, up the turn speed a tiny bit, and you’re good.
Performing a 180 turn isn’t as quick as a dualshock, but small movements are much quicker and you can usually get your crosshairs on someones head before they get theirs on yours.
Only downside is that you have to stand while playing and after a while you end up hip firing.
Feels great though. Adds an extra layer of immersion holding a gun and pointing it at your enemies.

  8. Ohh, I’m just about to start Killzone 3 now! The disc is in my PS3 read to go – time for me to go & experience Killzone 3! =]

I would right a weview but don’t think I will get ample time with it to tell you truthfully how it is. Can’t wait for the result.

  9. “same crappy characters” and you said KZ2 was superb, that makes no sense ;)

    • sorry that was in response to FoxHoundGabe, my reply system messed up

      • Well, that was one of the few things that i didnt like in K2. I had hoped they fix that too in K3.

  10. Ooooh, a big un’ this week! Expect a few long reviews on this one. General consensus to be Buy It!
