World Of Warcraft Is Now Free To Play

The world’s most popular MMO, World Of Warcraft, is now free to play. Gamers can create an unlimited number of characters who can reach a maximum of level 20, however the characters will not be able to accumulate more than ten gold coins or join guilds.

There will be no time restriction on the free-to-play offer and it is estimated that new players will be able to enjoy some orc battling for around fifteen hours before hitting level 20.

Although players will avoid the £8.99 a month subscription cost they will still have to buy the base game which can be purchased for around £10.

  1. Whoa.

  2. “There there …”

    Nice consolation.

    • *kicks wordpress* Stop reverting back to previous saves!! Bloody thing.

  3. Not going to try it. I know that I’d get into it, and I dont have enough time now to finish games let alone get Involved in WoW.

    • Same here, fella. We’re just chatting about it now. The moment you succumb to it, the moment your friends and family never see you again. It would be the end of me!

      • With me and Final Fantasy XI it was the other way around. Back in my school days when I had nothing really to do I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing online but then a female came around and at some point I just didn’t have any time left for the game… :D

      • Just the one?

      • Actually, yes. :)

    • I for one can’t get any more addicted to this game than others. When I play it I usually tire after a couple hours and don’t play it again for a month. It’s an awesome game world, but repetetive and slow when it comes to gameplay.

  4. I can see people doing this, getting to level 20 and then upgrading to the paid subscription. I think that by the time you are level 20 you have a real hang of the game, I wouldn’t want to stop levelling there.

  5. Brilliant game, if you have the time.

  6. Played the demo, killed some boars. Meh. Not my cup of tea. I’ll stick to console games. The only PC game I’m really interested in is Minecraft

  7. Between WOW, Warhammer Online, Age of Heroes, D and D online, Middle Earth on line and Lego Universe having free to play models, will I ever have time for my poor ol’ PS3.

  8. Make love not warcraft ;)

    • Best SouthPark episode for a looong time!

  9. Oh god. Resistance is futile.

  10. That’s just the free trial for longer though.. very peculiar to say it’s free to play as you’ll still have to pay to actually play the main part of the game. By level 20 you’ve barely scratched the surface of WoW so I guess it’s a good way to get more players and get them to pay extra when they’re hooked :)
