First Look At Silent Hill: Book Of Memories

Possibly the most divisive game in Konami’s upcoming line-up, new footage screened at Gamescom gives us a first glimpse at the newest Silent Hill title, planned for release on PlayStation Vita. Unlike previous games in franchise, Book of Memories opts for multiplayer co-op action as opposed to the series’ iconic take on psychological horror.

It’s a change in pace that has upset a number of devoted fans, instead hoping that Silent Hill: Downpour will return to the basic principles which once made Silent Hill a must-play.

  1. Do your self a favour people don’t watch it….

  2. Could be an interesting aside, though it tramples on the whole concept of Silent Hill and what it is. As a multiplayer, co-op survival action game it could be fun, but I hope it isn’t the direction the series is headed in the future.

  3. I was doubtful, but that video has raised my interest.
It looks decent, and I’m sure if it was a new IP everybody would be talking it up, not down.
From what we’ve seen of Downpour, this is not going to kill off traditional Silent Hill, so why not have a new spin on it?
Although I’d have preferred a Silent Hill: Origins (one of the scariest games I ever played, and it was on PSP!) take on portable horror, this will do.

  4. If Konami’s intention with this game was to create an immersive world, true feelings of isolation and to strike absolute fear into the player then they have failed beyond belief.
If their intention was to piss of one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time while lifting their middle fingers on both hands to their loyal fans (like me) then they have succeeded flawlessly.

What this has to do with Silent Hill, I dont know know. It’s a blatant cash-in on an already flogged to death franchise. I’m so dissapointed that one of my all time favourite games as been reduced to absolute tripe over a few short years by people who obviously don’t give a rats arse about the legacy they should have a duty to uphold.

I won’t be buying this. I won’t be buying the HD remakes as the redone voice acting is far worse than those in the originals (and they were faaaaarr from perfect) and I’ll be getting Downpour off eBay when it hits a sub £25 price.
Im all for supporting developers but after this bull, they can f*ck off.

    • Completely agree. If you want a horror game done properly, then give it to the Japanese. The day Team Silent stopped making Silent Hill games, the series has done nothing but disappoint me. I’ve been preying that Downpour, despite it’s tacky name, will turn out to be a really good game, even if it will never match the first few. But with the recent news of Book of Memories, and now the HD Remake voice acting, I’m finally realising that Silent Hill will never be what it used to be, and I’ll probably never buy another piece of Silent Hill merchandise in my life. And for me, that REALLY is saying something.

This news is almost bad enough to make me want to wear gloves for the rest of my life, in an attempt to hide away the 2 HUGE Silent Hill tattoos I have on the top of my hands. It’s like having a Slipknot tattoo, eh Crawf ;) It’s okay having the memory on your skin for the rest of your life, but when others look at it they immediately think of the recent releases said bands/developers have churned out.

      :(

      • The Silent Hill franchise is like a night of sex. The first few times are amazing and feel fantastic, after that it gets a little painful until the last couple of tries where you’re ploughing away like a trooper, trying to find that little bit ecstasy through the agony and the blood.

  5. *files with Burnout Crash! in the ‘Nameslap cash-in’ draw*

  6. Yikes!! This is not Silent Hill!! I am so very disappointed, thinking back to the PS1 SH1 demo in the MGS box…
Sad, very sad… come back SH!

    • That box defined my entire gaming life. What a day that was :)

At least one of them is still under the reins of someone with a fucking clue. :(

  7. they turned it into a twin stick shooter?

    oh the horror.
and not in a good silent hill way either.

sadly it doesn’t even look like this was a stand alone game that got an ip foisted on it like the batman imposters game probably did.
it looks like they set out to create a silent hill game, and then they made THAT!

it could be a good game, i’m not denying that, but that is not silent hill.
is this based on those god awful dying inside comics?
they featured a ancient book that had magic powers, bought off ebay apparently, and bugger all to do with the games.

i what does the book in the game, or the comics, have to do with silent hill?
i thought the central theme for the games was this cult that was behind everything.

it does look like it could be a fun game, i like the character creation option.

suddenly i have an urge to play silent hill 3.
