Crysis Will Be Downloadable

News just in that the forthcoming console release of Crysis will be a downloadable title. The PC-tester’s go-to game for benchmarking graphics capabilities will arrive on XBLA and PSN in October this year.

Priced at £16.99 or 1600 MSP (roughly £13.60), Crysis has been given a bit of an overhaul for its debut on home consoles. It will have “new lighting, effects and visual optimisations” making what is still considered to be a very good looking game, even prettier.

It might be the graphical power that most have focussed on with Crysis but underneath that sheen there was a very enjoyable game based around sandbox areas and nanosuit mechanics. This update has allowed Crytek to go back in and tidy it up a little bit, adding stereoscopic 3D in the process.

  1. I didn’t know they bench marked consoles that’s all this poor excuse of a game is good for.

    • wow.
I actually quite enjoyed Crysis, from what I can remember.

      • To it’s credit it started great jumping out of a plane and parachuting down to the island but it just goes down hill until it gets so boring you can’t continue. That was my experience anyway.

      • Can’t wait to finally try this out, think I prefer the lush setting to the concrete setting

    • Oh come now, it might not have been as earth shatteringly awesome as it was hyped up to be, but it wasn’t the worst game in the world either.

    • I’m sorry but that comment is completely uncalled for :(

      • It was a bit over negative but I also stated it starts well and goes down hill, there is nothing in the game to keep you playing. The graphics were good but as soon as you get past that it has nothing special to offer over other fps’. It’s not the worse ever Haze still has that trophy but it is definitely a big disappointment.

    • I get the same feeling from Killzone and other things..wasn’t really exciting to me, everyone has different opinions of certain games so why is it uncalled for?

At least it doesn’t say Crisis sucks or something because thats “uncalled”and pretty much negative.

      • It was in reply to;

“I didn’t know they bench marked consoles that’s all this poor excuse of a game is good for.”

I read that as an extremely negative comment, it not being exciting for you is completely different – thats fair enough. His however is just overly negative with no arguments to back up his claim. Just my 2 cents.

      • Killzone 3 for me was much better than Crysis 2. The story and the character attachment faired much better and played different on its own whilst agreeing with Crysis 2 it felt quite generic – still pretty to look at but not my cup of tea.

      • I dont think you really have to back up an opinion anyways. I think Infamous is crap, i find it difficult to back up the claim (which is why i read sites, and not write for them) but i guess its just.. well, i dont know, i just get bored after 5 minutes every time, same with resistance, god of war, which are all claimed to be great. Havent played Crysis but from what i can tell.. its all looks and no fun.

    • Personally I thought it was good fun, the open environment meant that when I couldn’t afford to buy any more games I could go back and play Crysis in a different style

  2. Well that’s a great deal, I’ll defintiely be getting this now, all I’m worried about now is how big the download is going to be.

    • PC version was a DVD so with console optimisations it could be under 2GB, at a guess.
In fact, if it’s being released as an XBLA title rather than a Games on Demand (the retail boxed games for digital download on Live) it will have to conform to Microsoft’s file size limits for XBLA games and that is still just 1GB, I think.

      • No possible way it’ll be that small Cb! The PC original had a massive (at the time) 12GB footprint. Obviously you can scale assets back down, and compress more heavily, but I’d estimate it’d still take up 8GB…

      • I’m surprised at that the game still looks really good and I remember it being quite long as well, so it’s really impressive how they’ve fit all that into 1GB.

      • yeah, it must be either getting a pass from Microsoft (I know some developers who will be pissed off about that…) or it’s going in their Games on Demand service. Odd.

      • XBLA games have 2gb limit. I dont think this will be listed as one of them though. Will probably just be a GOD game

      • Well, perhaps Crytek fluttered some eye lashes, and gently pointed out that they’re developing a 360 exclusive…
I’d imagine it’ll still be under Games on Demand, though.

  3. Yes! I always found the first Crysis more interesting than the sequel, & that’s a good price too :)

  4. aaaaaaand interest lost

    • Why have you lost interest – because it’s suprisingly cheap? If so, thats just weird..

      • Because it’s downloadable, I prefer disks, it doesn’t steal my HDD from me… I think my interest may be lost too…

  5. Some pretty poor comments so far. Having never played it, is Crysis really that bad?

    • Some interesting negativity coming from the PC camp all of a sudden around the web, that’s for sure…

      • Standout game jumps to another platform, fanboys of orginal version say it wont be as good SHOCKER

    • I’ve never played it, but I think some it is sour grapes from people who couldn’t play it on PC, or at least not at decent settings.
It got ridiculously good reviews http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/crysis , with a metascore of 91, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

      • Yeah but even if its 91… a few wouldn’t like it because of gameplay perhaps than visuals, it goes for every game so a total score isn’t always trustworthy.

    • No its not. It’s actually pretty good, I never got on the hype train – I played it 2 years after release on my laptop with medium settings and it was still pretty damn sweet :)

    • Its not too bad?

  6. Excellent.
When I read the last previous story, I assumed it would be on disc and full price for a while, and I’d have to wait to pick it up.
A great addition to the PSN.
    I’ll pick it up.

  7. Will it be on disc too?
I have very little memory on my HDD

    • just downloadable, going from the press release. It can’t go on Games on Demand if it hasn’t had a disc release though, can it? So it must be an Arcade title on 360, but it would break size limit rules.

      I’m very confused.

      • Ah Ok then I may need to do some back-up and clear unwanted/finished game/saves and data for Crysis

        Thanks Peter

  8. I bet the digital foundry guys practically jizzed at this announcement

    • oooh, can’t wait to see what he does with this now.

      • Reckon leadbeater will do it or get one of his new minions?

  9. I’m surprised by all the negative comments, having seen a lot of “no-you should have re-released crysis-it was a superior game” in response to crysis 2.

  10. Well i am “Crying out for a remastering…of TimeSplitters 2”! ! ! :P

    • Oh, good call but you know I’d rather want Timesplitters 4…much like Battlefront 3 than remastering the the first two :)

      TS4 could be so much

      • I want TS4 as well. They now have the cash, i think. So they should be able to get started on it. Unless they have sold the rights to another publisher. I remeber laughing out loud for a few minutes when at some cutscenes in TS3. Fun times. Curse my PS3’s lack of BC.
