PSN Offline For Maintenance Tonight (Again)

It seems that we write these stories every few days. The PlayStation Network is going to be unavailable again tonight between 5PM and 9PM, UK time. There was unscheduled maintenance last week and again on Monday so we’re sure you’re all getting a little tired of it by now.

If this is to help keep the network secure or to add extra speed or features, though, it’s surely worth the trouble? We advise you all to sign in beforehand, if you can, and stay signed in for the duration to avoid any inconvenience.

The services that are offline will be the Store and the Account management settings but as long as you’re signed in before they go down, you should be able to use the network to play games as normal.

Better get that Battlefield 3 beta quick then.

    • indeed and now im confused is it 7pm or 9pm it completes?

During this period the PSN will be unavailable from 17.00PM until 19.00PM BST.

    • yes, except I was stuck in an airport when that went up so didn’t know we’d already reported it was coming!
The forum post definitely says 9PM though, maybe they’ve decided they need longer?

      • The Forum says 9pm but further down it says 19:00 as below (Hence why im confused):-

PlayStation Network Maintenance has been scheduled to take place this coming Thursday 29th September from 17.00PM until 21.00PM BST.

During this period the PSN will be unavailable from 17.00PM until 19.00PM BST.

This will affect the following PlayStation Network Services:

        PlayStation Store
        Account Registration
        Account Management

      • I think PSN is due to be down till 7pm but there could still be issues until 9pm – at least thats what has been mentioned before.

  1. till 9pm? What about the BF3 beta, I can’t get my dose of wickedness.

    • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

      • lol: my nooo was too long and extended out of the box. Guess it’s easier to have a mod edit my post to cut down the length rather than fix the style-sheet :P

    • i logged on during the “downtime” the other night and played fine!

that’s the thing i really don’t get about it, i always can login fine and play online when its supposed to be down!

  2. Not really tired of maintenance.. I don’t see why people make such a big deal about it. Maybe they should have backup servers which remain live for plus members only while maintenance takes place…

    • I’m sure it’s really annoying for some people so I can understand the frustration. Hard to be too annoyed when they’re only doing it to make the service better or more secure though.

  3. And it just so happens to be on the day when the BF3 beta is released. I smell a conspiracy. *puts on tin foil hat* ;p

Oh well, it just gives me an excuse to play more DAO. :D

  4. they are probably getting something ready you can still play games it is not Onlive :).

  5. The maintenance is running from 5pm to 9pm, but the PSN store and account management will only be down for the 2hrs between 5pm and 7pm.

  6. I like it when there is maintenance I don’t know why.

as it been a lot recently I expect it all to do with Sony 5th Oct 2011 reveal.

    • Indeed, possibly the redesigned Store?

  7. This site(like most sites)just love to have little digs at the PS3 & SONY. They make out their console they really love(i.e the Xbox 360)is perfect LoL

    • In fairness, i love Sony but if they didn’t act like muppets quite so often, there would be less to dig at right?

Also, i see no bias here (& i have been around long enough to know by now) – The PS3 receives every bit of love that the 360 receives if not more.

    • Obvious Troll is obvious.

      • Yes, because ‘TheSixthAxis’ clearly implies this is an Xbox fansite ;)

      • Oops, sorry. That was meant as a reply for Reality Check.

    • Why do you only ever comment to say how awesome Sony is and take every article which isnt in some way “Sony positive” as an attack. Please, give it a rest. You really are the only one here who cares.

    • TSA was originally an PS3 only site when it first started. Why the hell would you think they would turncoat on the console they originally reported exclusively on?

      • This. Reality Check, perhaps a reality check is in order? You might wanna make sure your accusations have a solid base before crying conspiracy.

    • Idiot

    • They are doing a shit job at having a dig at the PS3 and sony then as i can’t find a single dig on here that is aimed at them. Please go away Troll. You seem to badmouth the xbox 360 everytime you comment so who’s having dig at a company now? ;)

  8. “It seems that we write these stories every few days.”

Thats probably because you write multiple articles for each period of downtime – I read a similar story about tonights maintenance only the other day on this very site.

    Pathetic.

    • Obviously not reading the comments above then, as CB admitted (3rd comment down) that he hadn’t seen the article from the other day!

Besides, i would rather hear about this sort of thing twice than not at all.

      • He should’ve got his facts straight before starting with the words “It seems that we write these stories every few days.”

I do prefer when things have been researched before-hand, makes for better journalism I find.

    • In fairness, we did write about this one twice (because I missed the first story, a couple of days ago) but there has been three bouts of maintenance in roughly a week. Is that pathetic too or do you forgive Sony without a second thought? Should we pretend that the maintenance isn’t happening, just in case someone sees how frequent it is and thinks Sony isn’t doing a great job? I don’t really understand your motivation with this vitriolic comment.

      • Forgive? You make it sound like they are committing some terrible travesty when in reality its a couple of hours of maintenance. Prior to the outage last week, I cant even remember when it was last down (other than the obvious incident in April).

In answer to your question, I don’t see that there’s much to forgive. I work in IT, I know the number of things that can happen in large networks and the needs for occasional periods of downtime.

My “vitrolic” comment as you put it is a response to your antagonistic opening line about the frequency with which you are having to write these stories. If you’re going to open with a pop like that, you really should have ensured it wasn’t a duplicate story.

      • oh, I see. Fair enough.

      • Your bias is sickening. Not only does Microsoft and Nintendo(!! who barely have an online presence) have regular bouts of downtime, which you fail to bother to mention, you also selectivly report other stuff.

I don’t recall you EVER mentioning Micrososoft’s famous 3 week outage in all your PSN hack reporting….

Pathetic is the word for it.

      • To be fair, i think thousands of people personal details getting stolen is a bit more important then then XBL going down for 3 weeks in the same period of time. ;)

TSA has never been biased. How do the “selectivity report stuff”. I’m pretty sure that noone is paid to report stuff on here and that they report what they can.

      • Look up 2 comments and you find a twat ;)

    • It’s not really “pathetic”, though, is it? Men who get drunk and hit women are pathetic, people who discriminate based on race and sexual orientation are pathetic.

This is more “unfortunate” and the reason for it has already been explained logically by CB in an earlier post.

      • Agreed, pathetic was too harsh and I take it back – it just gets a bit tedious seeing things like this over-sensationalised, not just by this site but by the games media in general

    • Even without the duplicate post Sony seems to have far more downtimes than other services. Having a downtime shortly after the BF3 beta goes public is also kind of a dumb move. People tend to overreact a little these days when something comes up that does not praise Sony at least 5 times in the first paragraph.

      • if it needs to done let them do it if it went down everyone would be moaning again.

  9. Also: why do they pick the evening to go offline? Isn’t that when everyone heads home from work and wants to play? Why wouldn’t you do mainenance 2pm-5pm?

    • The maintenance is been done in japan, where it’s the middle of the night, hence why why it’s during the evening over here.

      • They don’t care about BF3, right? So why not ruin their evening for a change? :P
