It has been announced that Mass Effect 3 will be getting a demo in January, which will include single and multiplayer features. However, to get in first you’ll need that Battlefield 3 online pass.
“Hello everyone!” went a post in the official forum. “It’s going to be a Happy New Year! Mass Effect 3 will have a pre-release demo in January 2012.”
“This demo will have both single player and multiplayer sections, giving fans a taste of what’s to come on March 6, 2012. Be first to the front lines in the multiplayer section of the Mass Effect 3 demo! Redemption of the Online Pass for Battlefield 3 will unlock this early access.”
“But rallying for war is just getting started – in late November / early December, BioWare will announce other ways for fans to engage the enemy with their friends online from day one!”

After the first game I was enraptured by the Mass Effect universe, now about 20 hours into the second game I’m not so sure. The DLC missions were just boring, there are free browser games with more going on, the rest of the story is really going to have to make up for the mediocre gameplay to sell the third game to me. On the plus side, the dialogue is incredible, if the whole game was just diplomacy I’d be sold! I hope the co-op aspect doesn’t affect the amount of gripping story delivered through the dialogue. Admittedly I’m currently nowhere near going through the Omega Relay, so I’ll press on and stay optimistic!

It’s worth sticking with, I guess the issue is that the second part of a trilogy is aways going to be transitional rather than conclusionary.
The story does step up as you get towards the Mass Relay though, you get a sense of the “against the odds danger” you would hope for and it sets itself up will for part 3.

The DLC were boring? Wow, and here i thought Shadow Broker was the best part of the game!!

guess i’ll be going without the demo then.
i’d have thought buying the first two mass effect games would get me a demo, but i guess ea just want to use the demo to sell battlefield 3.
with this, the lack of review copies and them trying to influence reviews it’s like they have no confidence in the game.
if i was a fan, i’m not, i’d be concerned.

Well personally I have total confidence in DICE to deliver a great game, after having bought the last two they made on release day. I mean, usually there’s a few patches after launch, but the gameplay is always fantastic. I don’t see why it should be any different for BF3 just because the game is being hyped by EA.

ME2 was awesome so I’ll definately be getting this final chapter. Don’t care about all the stupid extras like early access demos and co-op though so I’ll pick it up pre-owned when there is a massive lull in new releases.

So I now need an online pass for a game I dont want to play a demo for a game that I do. What a pile of hairy nut bags.

Certainly a little underhanded but note: “Redemption of the Online Pass for Battlefield 3 will unlock this *****early***** access”
Hopefully the rest of us who give BF3 the middle finger should still get the demo, just a week later probably :)

“There will be another program whereby players and fans of the Mass Effect franchise can unlock this early access (with no purchase necessary) – this will also be announced in late November or early December.”

Online Pass Rage subsiding….for now

Ahh That’s good news at least :)

So i would have to get a new copy of BF3 just to get the demo early. I rather wait as it’s only a demo and Bioware is not good at demos.
Plus i refuse to adknowledge the ME3 MP. It is a SP only game.*sticks fingers in his ears and goes LALALALA* :p

You should buy the game used just to seal the deal!

I will play Mass Effect on INSANE January to remember the characters and the story in order to be ready for ME3
I think I will ignore the demo, don’t want to see it/play it until I have the full game ^^
First 2 Mass Effect just blew my mind…

Buying games to get early access is pretty common-place, infamous and uncharted and crackdown and halo did it.
Does feel like EA are trying to ram online passes down our necks but at least there is a tangible positive to the consumer that isn’t “get the rest of your game”.

I’m happy to get stuck into it without a demo.

I like how everyone mainly compliments the Mass Effect universe but not the actual gameplay itself. I found the gameplay rather dissapointing and altough games like Alpha Protocol largely borrow elements form ME, I found AP to be far more enjoyable and uniquely interesting to play.

So you’re cooler than the rest. We get it, thanks.
