Nintendo Announces New Wii Console Bundle

Nintendo UK has just revealed a Wii bundle which incudes the new Wii configuration.

The bundle will include a new configuration Black Wii with a black steering wheel and a copy of Mario Kart Wii. The bundle goes on sale this Friday, November 18th, though no price has been given.

“This new Wii bundle not only offers great value to fans, but introduces a Wii console with a slightly altered configuration, which now stands horizontally, rather than vertically.”

The new Wii design has a disadvantage over the old Wii design in that it “is no longer compatible with Nintendo GameCube software and accessories.”

Bit of a strange decision by Nintendo to take away a console function, in this case backwards compatibility, rather than add to it.

  1. Ooooo Mario Kart. I already have a GameCube. Hm…

    Surely that’s sarcasm?
    (Says the bitter PS3 owner)

  3. No doubt this is for all those people who are temped by Skyward Sword and those positive reviews its been getting…

  4. I do like that my Wii has backwards compatibility to be honest, as I do use the function an awful lot, I still love playing GC games, and it’d be a pain to have to set it up as well as the Wii. Still, if they can cut the price of the Wii, or simply increase their margins, then it’s a fair situation.

  5. The new config is advertised as a ‘family edition’, this to me doesn’t seem like the people who would care about or want gamecube compatibility, as they’re all older games, and aren’t’ shoved in their face anymore by adverts on telly. Also, it makes the console exceptionally cheap.. Really is perfect for casual gamers.

  6. £99.
