You can’t move for the wild speculation regarding the next gen console at the moment but the question is, do we need a new console? We talked about this last month but now we want to see what you think about it. Are you happy with your PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the vast array of games available or do you think the systems are starting to show their age and need a refresh?
When the ‘NeXtbox’ and the PS4 launch they will undoubtedly be costly, the Xbox 360 launched at $479.99 and the PS3 was $599.99 and there is very little chance of the new consoles being cheaper.
No doubt publishers will pass the extra development costs on to players and we may find games rising in price as well – can you afford to pay £50-60 for the latest release?
Many rumours have suggested a Christmas 2012 launch for the new consoles so for the first Massive Poll we want to know when you want your new console.
For the second Massive Poll, you can pick your top five ‘Next Gen essentials’ – will it be a huge hard drive? A quiet, compact design? Backwards compatibility? Get clicking and remember you can pick fiveessential ingredients!
The polls close midnight on Sunday and the results show will follow next week.

Future proof or upgradable processor and RAM….*tick*
Watchful
Whenever it does turn up, can we have shadows that don’t look like they’re made out of breeze blocks (cinder blocks for our US readers). Low-res shadows are my current least popular feature of this generation.

I think that a new Xbox isnt too far away. Even though MS keep defending their product, and rightfully so, time is beginning to tell. Games coming out on multiple disks and the PS3 being the lead design platform for a few high profile titles means they will want to get the next gen underway. Problem is, the PS3 seems to have a lot more to give, and I can imagine that Sony will want to give up on the it. I expect them to release last. Again.
What confuses me more is, why do we need a new console? Graphics havnt progressed a world breakingly huge amount, and the current gen is still selling a truck load (ignoring the wii).

Although I would like to see an optical drive I think the next consoles will be geared more towards download-able games.
You cannot trade in a digital copy of a game.

To not have a physical product would put me off altogether. I like my boxed games & don’t want to see them ever disappear.
I wouldn’t go to next gen if next gen meant no boxed product.
Plus i don’t think this will really be a reality until the whole country (or world looking at the bigger picture) is on a decent broadband connection. Its far too randomised at the moment from one town to the next & for it to take off it needs to be seamless everywhere.

Voted, but I’m not bothered by retina burning graphics, I want from the next gen much improved AI and a more integrated XMB. Other than that, I’ll not get one straight away, unless it ships with GT6 or 7 then I’ll be queuing up ;)

I want a new console asap tbh, graphics/performance is lagging so far behind what technology is these days.

Lot’s of RAM, free online gaming, decent browser, cross platform play and BC for all psn/ps3 games at least.
Well, that’s what i want anyway.

I said Dec 2012, whilst playing ACR I have found myself thinking the current gen graphics are starting to show their age
Agree about carrying over PS3 trophies, user upgradable HDD (as PS3), NTFS compatability, ability to delete game trophy data eg. for games I have 0% and will never play again (hello Call Of Juarez), speedier XMB, lower power consumption, 60fps and screen tearing eliminated
I agree that the new XBox isn’t far off and I don’t think Sony are gonna get the PS4 out til about 6 months after
