You can’t move for the wild speculation regarding the next gen console at the moment but the question is, do we need a new console? We talked about this last month but now we want to see what you think about it. Are you happy with your PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the vast array of games available or do you think the systems are starting to show their age and need a refresh?
When the ‘NeXtbox’ and the PS4 launch they will undoubtedly be costly, the Xbox 360 launched at $479.99 and the PS3 was $599.99 and there is very little chance of the new consoles being cheaper.
No doubt publishers will pass the extra development costs on to players and we may find games rising in price as well – can you afford to pay £50-60 for the latest release?
Many rumours have suggested a Christmas 2012 launch for the new consoles so for the first Massive Poll we want to know when you want your new console.
For the second Massive Poll, you can pick your top five ‘Next Gen essentials’ – will it be a huge hard drive? A quiet, compact design? Backwards compatibility? Get clicking and remember you can pick fiveessential ingredients!
The polls close midnight on Sunday and the results show will follow next week.

No solder but screws and a backplate so no RRODS and YLODS.

I went for Christmas 2013. I’d like it later but realism got the better of me. Next Christmas is definitely too soon. I also went for Blu Ray, increased memory, backwards compatability and 2TB HDD

I reckon the new Xbox will be with us by the end of 2012. The 360 has been around for 6 years now. So by Christmas 2012 it will be over 7 and I think that is as far MS are willing to take it as their main console. 6 to 7 years seems reasonable. It’s the trend Sony seem to follow anyway. As good as the Xbox is, it is hardly cutting edge any more. It’s disc format is outdated. The hardware is also starting to show it’s age. I’m pretty sure Sony will bring a new Playstation no more than a year after. I doubt they will want MS to build a big lead on them again like they did at the start of this gen.
Maybe Sony and MS will team up to make a super console. I can hope anyway.

Its a bit wishful for a new Playstation Console in 2012….. haha, I don’t know it all depends on Backwards Compatibility and the price…. if I can’t play PS3 games then I’d be pissed off, what are they going to do? re-release them in Super-duper HD with 3D? Seriously hope its easy to dev on as well….

2013 for me. That gives 2 more years.

First of all, I don’t see how the next playstation can have anything other than similar CPU architecture otherwise backwards compatibility will be a huge problem, and also a much larger amount of RAM is needed. Even games like uncharted suffer from low resolution textures and the like because they’re all being crammed onto that relatively small amount of RAM. A much larger amount of it needs to be reserved for the OS as well to enable features like cross game chat and a faster in game XMB

All I want from the ps4 is a web browser that doesn’t shit it’s self when you load up a web page if it has that I’ll pre order it now no matter when it’s out
