EU PS3 Trine 2 Delay A Result Of SCEE QA

It’s now 2012 and there’s still no sign of Trine 2 on the PlayStation Store in Europe.

The game launched on all platforms back in December except for PS3 in Europe, bizarrely. Developers Frozenbyte have since issued an apology, but didn’t explain the cause of the delay.

However, it has now emerged that the postponement came about because the game failed Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s rigorous QA process.

Frozenbyte’s vice president Joel Kinnunen has expressed his disappointment at the failure of a simultaneous launch on PS3 in Europe and America because, in his opinion, both games were identical:

Trine 2 is in SCEE’s QA now. There was probably a holiday pause but things should be back to normal now so hopefully we’ll hear more soon.

We are anxiously awaiting the European release ourselves!

We had both SCEA and SCEE versions ready at the same time and they are basically 100 per cent the same (SCEA version already has all European languages, for example), so we are very disappointed we couldn’t have a simultaneous launch. But it’s out of our hands.

This means that there’s still no word on a European release date and Kinnunen has said that all they can do is hope that “the release is as soon as possible.”

  1. so, like i said, it’s scee’s fault?

scee’s QA really isn’t all that rigorous judging by how much totally broken content they’ve let through.

if there was some consistency in what they do i could believe they actually know what they’re doing.
    but clearly, they don’t.

not that any other department of scee seems to know what they’re doing either.

  2. I forgot how American and European PS3s are wildly different from one another. :P

One thing I want to know is this: WHY are Trine 2 US and Trine 2 Europe not EXACTLY identical? Especially as the developer has confirmed that the languages (the obvious possible reason) are present in both games.
So what is it that makes the two games even slightly different?

Must say I’m kind of sick of SCEE’s QA process. It’s seems a bit overly-strict.

  3. Seeing as SCEA has let Trine 2 pass their QA then SCEE can as well. I mean, unless the game is unplayable or has a legal issue then i can’t see why SCEE has not let it pass. It’s not like SCEE are known to never let unplayable content through.(I remeber the Crysis 2 demo being unplayable).

Seeing as both versions are identical, then what the hell are SCEE playing at? O-o

  4. If it’s “basically” the same game, what’s the difference?

    • That’s what I’m wondering too.
Maybe there’s an actual reason for this delay?
Doubt it though- how long does it take to say ‘No, not good enough, go fix issue X.’
And that’s if there is an actual issue there.
