Next Xbox/PS4 Set for E3 Reveal

E3 2012 was always going to be interesting, what with Wii U details as well as what Sony has planned for the Vita.

However, according to a report by MCV, things are about to be taken up a notch with the unveiling of both the PS4 and a new Xbox.

Editor of MCVuk, Ben Parfitt, has said that although he cannot reveal their source for this information:

“You have my personal word on this – the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level.”

A three-way new console battle at E3? Yes please!

  1. Sounds good, I would love to see how great games made for the PS4 will look :)

I’m not sure whether backwards compatibility matters to me, there are some games from this gen that I can see myself still wanting too play in a few years, and then there’s the PS1 classics that I’ve bought of the PSN. It would be a real pain to have to re-buy all the digital stuff. I guess I would like to have the option, even if it is in the form of an expensive add-on.

  2. Assuming the launch lineup looks good the Wii-U will be getting my vote this time. I’m bored of online passes, day one patches and all that other rubbish :)

    • If (and it is a big if) Nintendo release the Wii U with a decent network then this could become the case with that too. Sadly this seems to be the most cost effective way for companies to get money these days.

    • Nintendo wants all the classic multiplatform franchises like Call of Duty & Assassin’s Creed on their WiiU.

Expect the same passes, patches & other shit there.

  3. I want a PS4 now.

  4. I think I’m ready for it. Let’s see what they’ve got in store

  5. So, announced at E3 means what kind of release date? Mid 2013 perhaps? That’s roughly when I want them to be released.

  6. If it doesn’t have backwards compatability, I’m not interested ’til 2014. If it does, I’ll be fine with a release late next year. Either way, I would still like 2 more years of the PS3, and I’d need the 2 years to save up!

  7. The PS3 is so far behind my PC in performance terms that I’m getting a bit bored/frustrated gaming on it.
Skyrim was both the last straw and last non-exclusive game I buy for the console.
I realise it’s all about price/performance but I’m hoping that a new console will go some way to narrowing the gap, and maybe offer something new that the PS3 doesn’t currently do and that you can’t do on PC.

  8. I dont really understand people hoping ps4 wont come out until 20** etc, if you’re happy with the current gen then dont buy it at launch?! Then when you do get one some bugs will have been ironed out, more games available and it’ll cost less. I look forward to it as soon as possible!!! psssst i heard a rumour that the ps4s’ hdmi lead plugs straight in to your eye, power lead up your arse and all controlled by nipple thumbsticks.

    • I hope it comes out soon but I guess people say this for financial reasons. Between £300 and £500 is a heck of a lot of money to have spent on the most recent PS to know it will be “last gen” soon and you will have to fork out an other £400 odd.

      Just a guess.

  9. It’s about time, my attention span for my consoles has been extremely low lately, the PS3 hasn’t really been played extensively since Uncharted 3 and MW3 spec-ops, my PC has seen so much more time.

A lot of people will think it’s too soon to be thinking about replacement consoles, but for me it’s about right, my core 360 hasn’t been touched in about 8 months :(

  10. Its going to be intresting. especially spec wise… most people would argue that simply more ram and new graphics card could boost the ps3’s fortunes by quite a bit so id would be intrested to see just how far sony will take a PS4 in terms of tech….
i cant help feel that no matter what either of them introduce with in there next console. the very next presentation will just be a game of 1up
