God Of War 4 Reveal Next Month

UK gaming mag PLAY has come out with a nice juicy rumour: God of War IV and Syphon Filter 4 will both be announced next month.  In a feature about games to be announced this year, Kratos’ latest is marked with a ‘February’ reveal.

“Sony Santa Monica’s call for an online dev to join its ranks has many thinking the inevitable God of War IV will include online play,” says the magazine.  “We could stop and ask why, but then we could also ask there’s another game when GOW III was meant to be Kratos’s last outing. We’re not complaining though.”

And as for the next Syphon Filter, the magazine claims it’s under development at SCE London and “will see a return to the world of shooting, espionage and Gabe Logan’s superb name.”

PLAY say both games will be released in 2012.

  1. Taking the announcement date with a large pinch of salt (oxymoron?). This is a print magazine that heard what it published at least one month earlier than now due to lead times. Usually, when a magazine reports a rumour (which they got from the net), then the net can take it as fact and run with it. Then you get a snowball of gibberish.

  2. Syphon Filter 4 sounds interesting, I loved the first and second games on PS1. I have some great memories of playing those 2 games =)

  3. IF TRUE…FANTASTIC.

  4. Have yet to play a GOW game. Am I missing out big time?

    • Yes. I recently finished the second game from the first HD collection, and they are very impressive. Epic, in fact. But you have to like hack and slash, ‘though just button-mashing will not get you anywhere. The difficulty ramps up quite a bit towards the end, but you can always turn it down if it gets annoying, without losing any trophies.

      • Sounds good. I enjoy hack and slash, that’s if it’s the Castlevania type hack and slash which is a bit tactical. Will put it on the list for summer drought :P

  5. I hope this is true. GoWIII only used half the engines capability, so a new game could push what we thought was possible on current gen consoles even further. I hope Santa Monica will try to take Naughty Dogs throne as graphics king, as games like this prove we don’t need a next gen for a couple of years.
