PS3 Firmware 4.10 Brings, Wait For It, A Decent Browser!

The PlayStation 3 has another firmware update, taking the console to version 4.10.

With it, probably one of the best upgrades we’ve seen for a good while – a decent web browser.  “The Internet browser has been improved,” says the German PlayStation site, “which optimizes the display of content and increases the accuracy when viewing page layouts.”

Indeed, it’s now infinitely better, with a quick HTML5 test kicking out a score of 80 (it had a zero before) and ACID3 scoring 99, which is remarkable (the Vita scores 53).   Better still, YouTube and Twitter now work perfectly.

Oddly there’s no mention of the update on the EU Blog, hopefully they’ll wake up soon enough, but it is on the US version but for some reason they just say it’s “improved display speed” and completely missing the point.

4.10 also includes all the Sony Entertainment Network stuff that we’ve been going back and forth over for a few days.  As you’d expect (before a missing word threw everything off for a few hours) the PSN is still there nice and proud.

The update is live now, as is the update for Vita taking it to 1.60.

  1. *slaps self repeatly to see if this is not a dream* The PS3 is getting a shiny new browser!? :O I wonder if it will be better then Internet Explorer or worse?

    I don’t care about the (J)SEN stuff as long as i can still access the service. :) I think Forrest may still be able to visit TSA if the browser doesn’t throw a fit whenever he tries to access the forums. ;)

  2. finally. been using ps3 browser from day one, its the only one i can use independantly due to dissability and i use it several hours a day and for me its opened a whole new world. thank you sony .

      2) Login and download NHL app from US PSN store.
      3) Win!!!

  6. This is good news, I’ve never bothered using the browser because it was far too much of an effort. May even be worth investing in a keyboard if it’s that good.

  8. Wow! Now Amazon works properly, and even the BBC News page is 99% correct. The new browser is even snappier than Firefox at times. What an unexpected present, and thank you Sony!

    Now will you release patch 1.4 for Skyrim PS3 please? – apparently Bethesda have passed it on to you, so when ever you’re ready…

  10. But still only using flash 9! This is because I have webpage that using for debuging info. And this is as before the update.
