There are rumours about that Star Wars Battlefront 3 is currently being developed by Spark Unlimited, devs behind Call Of Duty: Finest Hour. The rumours are now being fuelled by a job listing that has appeared on the company’s website.
“Spark is looking for a senior designer for a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets.”
That’s not the only interesting part about this job listing though.
“The Senior Designer will be responsible for… a third-person action shooter on next generation consoles.”
What we know then is that Spark is hiring for a 3rd person sequel set in a high profile sci-fi franchise. We also know it will be on current gen consoles. Next gen consoles also get a mention. Could Battlefront 3, if in development, also be a title on the Wii U? It would make sense considering Nintendo want to focus the Wii U on ‘core’ gamers.
The rumour gains some further traction from the CV of John Lawrie, who was Senior Software Engineer at Spark until early 2010. His LinkedIn profile mentions an unannounced IP which is a “third person sword fighting game.” Star Wars does have sword fighting with lightsabers.
Spark have also stated that “public disclosure expected sometime in 2012.” An E3 announcement would be a huge deal.
Of course, take the rumour with a pinch of salt until any confirmation of what Spark Unlimited are working on.

Hope this is true, with modern online servies like PSN/XBLA/Steam this series could finally get the audience it deserves

Hope so, Battlefront and Battlefront 2 are some of my favourite games of all time.
lurch79

Oh look, another Battlefront 3 rumour.
I’ll believe it when I see it. I do want it to happen, but these rumours are getting old.

That’s good and all tht Battlefront is rumoured to be in development, but Spark Unlimited? I wouldn’t hold out too much hope, especially with their track record.
ron_mcphatty
Whats their track record like?
BIGAL-1992
Not great. Their last two games, turning point and legendary, were simply awful and stuffed with problems.

Shame that the Free Radical (of Timesplitters fame) version got cancelled:

Please be true, pretty please. Loved the first two, and if the supposed leaked footage from ages ago is accurate then it could be pretty special.

The devs are rubbish. This is one rumour I hope is wrong.
MayContainEvil
I agree, they really need a dev who can do justice to the first two brilliant games.

It’s a shame lightbox are busy making starhawk, I think they’d do a brilliant job creating a battlefront game.
bluetemplar
Very true – Warhawk meets Star Wars would be pretty amazing

Zipper spring to mind too, 256 player starwars shooter? yes please.
yogdog
Hmmm…. Legendary was ok at best, same with the CoD they did compared to the PC version, and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty? The less said about the better…
Not too hyped now I’ve dug down a bit, but I will keep an open mind and hope to be pleasently surprised.

Battlefront 2 was worse than the first sadly but its a shame Pandemic doesn’t exist anymore, the gunplay just needs improved and the maps. vehicles to just… be better Oh and Cloud City.. how dare they remove it.
I hope its a lie, hate Spark… no way they can do this great justice.
jikomanzoku
Definite shame about Pandemic, even LOTR: Battlefront (or whatever it was called) was fun, add to that those two SW:BF games and the Full Spectrum Warrior titles and it’s a damned shame they’re gone.

Pretty please?
