SSX Demo Next Week

SSX creative director, Todd Batt, has told gamers to expect an SSX demo next week.

Consisting of four events, it’ll feature Zoe as a playable character (and Mac as an unlock by referring a friend), and will hit LIVE and the US PSN on February 21st, and the EU PSN on February 22nd.

The full game is out on February 28th in the US, and March 2nd in Europe.

  1. Excellent, just what I was hoping for :) I sincerely hope its as good as it looks, I’ve been waiting for a new SSX for years…

  2. I really hope this is good. I had many a good time playing the old games. I will be waiting till I hear proper gamer reviews before buying though, just to make sure its not another hype game.

  3. Sweet

  4. Really can’t wait to try this,I always loved the SSX games…especially Tricky. Could be my first purchase of the year.

  5. Without wanting to sound like a broken record, the version i played at eurogamer was horrible (IMO) – Nasty control scheme & still retained the ‘realistic’ look of the ‘Deadly Descents’ model instead of the madcap visuals of tricky. Felt a bit lifeless too & Uber specials just didn’t have the ‘oomph’ that they should have.

I am hoping that at least the controls have been tweaked so that they are back to what they used to be (tricks should not be on face buttons!) & that they have managed to inject some personality into the title, as it’ll be no sale for me otherwise.

    • How have they changed the controls? Is it more stick/trigger based á la Skate? I doubt that would be a deal breaker for me, but a classic scheme would certainly be appreciated and in its favour…

      • In the version i played all tricks were done on the face buttons (as opposed to the shoulder buttons of days gone by) & it was just plain weird & unwieldy – Granted, there very well may be a ‘classic’ control scheme or something, but i just found the whole thing a bit soulless & annoying to be honest. It was like they were trying too hard (if that makes any sense?).

Unless i can be convinced that things have changed for the better, i’ll be staying well away.

Hmmm… Maybe i just loved tricky too much. :(

      • @Forrest_01 – I think I get what you’re saying, as if they’re trying too hard to ‘improve’ it?

Tricky was undoubtedly one of my most loved games of all time, so I’m not expecting it to equal it, merely provide some nostalgic fun.

      • Not really that so much, i just kinda meant that they are trying too hard to please everyone, as they still want it to be a sim, yet they want it to be arcade. They want it to be taken seriously, yet they want it to be madcap at the same time.

The phrase “jack of all trades, master of none” comes to mind.

As mentioned above, i am sure my love of tricky is just making me extra cynical (& perhaps giving me expectations that i just shouldn’t have), but if i can’t get the ‘feel’ of tricky from it, then its just going to disappoint as far as i am concerned.

Shame really, as i would love (what i would consider to be) a ‘proper’ SSX game this gen. Hopefully things have been tweaked since EGX & i will fall in love all over again, but i’m not gonna hold my breath.

  6. PURE SS(E)X…i can’t wait :P I loved it on PS2. Hopefully it will be good;)

  7. As much as I am stoked for this I was planning to hold off and get it when it drops so that I can give my other backlog a chance. However, if the demo create a splash, I will find it very hard to stop myself picking it up sooner.

  8. Looking forward to trying this one out. Heard contrasting things so it could go either way, neither of which I mind because if it’s dross, I’ll save money! :D

  9. Looking forward to trying it out and i’m hoping they’ve recaptured the enjoyment of the originals.

  10. Very much looking forward to this!
Also think it’s promising that the developers are releasing a demo pre-release.
Now, let’s find out which of the originals are compatible on my fatty…

    • Had a quick blast on the US demo this morning, I’d say we’re in safe hands! Need to spend a bit more time nailing the controls but apparently there’s an option to go old school in that regard. Pity it isn’t applicable to the soundtrack too!
