73% Of Mass Effect 3 Sales Were On Xbox 360

Did I miss the memo?  Is Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 a broken mess of a game?

I suspect not, but it seems like the buying public didn’t really want the PS3 version, with just 14% of sales going towards that platform, at least in terms of UK retail.  73% of buyers bought the game on 360, with 8% opting for PC.

Other juicy nuggets emerging from today’s charts update?  The majority of sales for Rayman Origins were for the PS Vita version (37%) and more people bought Rage for 360 than for Sony’s platform.  Probably because it was available for about £3 from GAME.

If nothing else, the charts show that, even without GAME, large budget, heavily advertised titles will still top the charts, with EA’s RPG behemoth sailing proud at number one.

Blair’s currently reviewing Mass Effect 3, with the review copy only unlocking at the end of last week.

Really handy, that.

  1. As said, it’s probably because most people started playing the series on Xbox. I played both on PC so it’s PC again this time, if I bother picking this up.
Loved ME1, ME2 not so much.

  2. maybe because the ME3 advert is heavily sided with MS. It doesnt even say also on ps3, just says on xbox 360

  3. Slightly surprised by these figures. I expected the 360 to come out on top, but certainly didn’t expect the PC to have such a low amount of sales in comparison. I was pretty sure the PS3 version would have seen the worst sales as it’s come very late in the series and doesn’t even have the first game.

In my opinion I have had a much better Mass Effect experience on the PC than I did on the Xbox. No need to change discs and having hotkeys made Mass Effect much better for me.

  4. It’s because all us PS3 owners are rich and go for the £50/€70 non-tradeable download version which isn’t included in the numbers.

  5. think digital chart needs to be made as well.

  6. If I got this game (which I will, eventually, second hand), I’d get it on the 360 even though I do the majority of my gaming on my PS3 simply because I have a vested interest on that console by virtue of my game saves all the way back to ME1.
So not entirely surprising that the majority of sales were on the 360, I’m guessing the majority of players have their ME history on the 360.

  7. Well I had no problems at all on PS3
Mass Effect completed on the Xbox 360
Bought Mass Effect 2 on the PS3
Bought Mass Effect 3 on PS3 with the ME2 saves/Import Character
No problems at all and only clocked in 20hrs and still alot to do lol.

  8. I prefer playing it on ps3. Most people got it on 360 because of the first game being 360 exclusive.

This story is blatantly fanboy bait. The PS3 version is just as great as the 360.

  9. I’ve got the PS3 version and it’s crashed a few times, as well as a few other glitches. It’s the cutscenes that annoyed me the most though. At times the frame rate dropped so low it was like watching a flickbook. Still, love the game though.

    • That pretty much mirrors my experience on the PS3. Most annoying crashes were three in quick succession as I tried to take the lift out of the Commons on the Citadel. Eventually found somewhere it would let me go.

As for the sales figures, I suspect most PC sales were digital.

      • Likewise. Didn’t have much issue at first, but by the 10 hour mark, I had problems getting into the Dock Holding Area on the Citadel, the game would stall on the loading screen. Later on it would stall on the squad select screen, prior to a mission (curiously, both times it happened were N7 missions). Still no framerate issues to report though, at 30hrs in – though at times there’s an awful lot of disc access going on (navigating the War Room menu, for example).

  10. Gonna get it but I have a pile of epic games still to play. Not to mention unwrap. Unlike xbox ps3 has a huge number of AAA titles which have created a rich variety of titles to choose from. Every other advert is mass effect 3 on 360 and there hasn’t been a significant release for them for donkeys. Simples..

    • This could be a huge reason as well and how many PS3 players went for Twisted Metal in EU at least

    • That’s the exact reason I haven’t picked it up (for PS3) yet, so many other titles still in my pile to get through. By the time I’m ready to play ME3 it will be haf price with DLC included :)

The reality is that people will buy the game for whichever system they chose to play ME2 on. For me it was ME1 on Xbox but ME2 on PS3.

For Xbox only owners, ME3 is one of the few decent Xbox titles out at the moment, they will have been starved for something good to play for a while now.
