73% Of Mass Effect 3 Sales Were On Xbox 360

Did I miss the memo?  Is Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 a broken mess of a game?

I suspect not, but it seems like the buying public didn’t really want the PS3 version, with just 14% of sales going towards that platform, at least in terms of UK retail.  73% of buyers bought the game on 360, with 8% opting for PC.

Other juicy nuggets emerging from today’s charts update?  The majority of sales for Rayman Origins were for the PS Vita version (37%) and more people bought Rage for 360 than for Sony’s platform.  Probably because it was available for about £3 from GAME.

If nothing else, the charts show that, even without GAME, large budget, heavily advertised titles will still top the charts, with EA’s RPG behemoth sailing proud at number one.

Blair’s currently reviewing Mass Effect 3, with the review copy only unlocking at the end of last week.

Really handy, that.

  1. Considering how devs muck up PS3 versions on multi plat games, I would have bought it on XBOX too. I didn’t buy it, and want to buy it for my PS3, but I just can’t trust devs these days.

BF3 was the last straw with trusting devs on multi plat games.

    • Why? What’s wrong with BF3?

      • Input lag, VOIP not working on launch, green flashes on the screen, campaign errors (being logged out for some reason and campaign crashes) B2K weapon glitches on B2K maps (only now fixed) system freezing (more than Skyrim)…and these are ones I’ve personally seen. Maybe there’s more if I Google.

      • what’s right with it!
piss poor on both consoles and i can vouch for that i have both consoles and have played it on both..
which have long since been traded in at the ill fated Game.

  2. It’s because of the save transfer option. The 1st game wasn’t on PS3, so most people started on Xbox and with the ability to transfer saves, they stayed with the Xbox.

    • This is exactly what sprang to my mind when I read the article, 360 is the series fatherland.

  3. one word: fanbase

  4. lots of PS3 owners brought Vitas so have no money.

  5. I didn’t buy the Film…er erm Game:D People(well you know who)moan about the MGS series being all cut scenes etc etc but the Mass’Boredom’Effect games are worse i think:D

    • The feck you on ’bout?

    • That’s odd as ME has more gameplay sections then 4 did. And MGS4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Not everyone likes watching long cutscenes and MGS tends to have long cutscenes. Are you saying that because it’s sold the most on the 360 or do you generally dislike it?

  6. I’m a bit surprised that it’s 73% of all ME3 sales were for the xbox version but not surprised that ME3 sold the most on the xbox considering the ads tend to be xbox 360 only.

I’ve not heard of any problems on the PS3 so as long as it works, i don’t care if it’s the inferior version. At least it’s not as bad as Fallout 3 was for the PS3.

  7. To be fair i would probably have got it on 360 were it not for the fact my game saves for me2 were on ps3. It is playable, but the frame rate is a little distracting… But only because i read the digital foundry face off and therefore looking for it… DF can rarely be seen as impartial as they clearly favour the 360 and even on identical games they tend to try and swing favour to 360, but downplay any technical advantages on ps3 games that have been proted well. That said, the frame rate, in cut scenes primarily is quite poor, and i dont remember me2 having as much trouble, but oddly remember me1 on 360 did suffer badly.
None of this affects my enjoyment drastically, and when you consider the size of what bioware have managed to squeeze onto a collection of 1’s and 0’s you have to give tremendous credit to them.
I hear the endings are disappointing, and people think its trendy to bash bioware for day one dlc too… But by christ can they make a damn good scifi epic, and unless the trilogy ends with sheperd taking off a mask and it turning out to be jar jar binks i think they have nudged star wars off the top spot for scifi crown..

  8. most players will have started the series on 360 and with the ability to carry your saves forwards, most players will continue to play on 360.

i know when i do eventually get the game, it’ll be the 360 version.

  9. That’s a huge discrepancy. Though I doubt performance has anything to do with it. Even when I had both PS3 and 360 I used to buy multi-platform on PS3 because I don’t pixel count or study the frame rate of my games, I just prefer the comfort of Sony’s controller.

  10. My PS3 copy if fine, this is probably because of the saved game continuity. I think it’s quite a pretty game.
