Black Mesa Screenshots Released

The Black Mesa devs have just released the first batch of gameplay screenshots for Black Mesa, a remake/re-imagining  of Valve’s Half Life in the Source engine. The images were released after the team’s Facebook page hit 20,000 likes.

The project actually began as two different projects by different teams, who soon realised they were both trying to create the same thing. The teams joined together to develop Black Mesa, originally titled Black Mesa Source. The Source part of the name was eventually dropped after Valve requested the team to do so.

The team says that “This is just the beginning. We have more in store for you in the near future.”

  1. been waiting so long for this i have been through puberty twice!…love valve but they are like a friend with benefit situation. however this looks so good!

    • You have to remember that this isn’t Valve developed though. It’s fan made with people using their own spare time to make it happen.

  2. Looks good but as it’s a Valve game, anything to do with it is required to run on Valve time and chances are we won’t see the completed mod come out untill 2030.

I’m glad that Valve is allowing them to do this as i think certain other publishers would have told them to stop it or risk getting sued. I can see Valve picking up the team behind this for Steam as they tend to do that with a lot of mod developers.
