Rumour: Metal Gear Solid 5 Announced At Comic-Con

Reports are coming in that Metal Gear Solid 5 has just been announced at Comic-Con.

“The moment we were cast out of heaven,” the screenshot says, with some suggesting this is to with Big Boss, “we became monsters.”

The text next to the logo reads “Open Ground Reconnaissance Endeavour.”

We’re currently following this up now, Konami’s PR declined to comment at the time of publication. There’s a chance it was a “behind closed doors” event, or – of course – it could be completely fake.

  1. It better be PS3 only.

    • Sod that, PS4 launch title please.

    • It’s a social Facebook game where you recruit your friends into FOXHOUND by posting covert messages on their Wall.

    • It better be a Facebook exclusive, social and Free 2 play.

  2. Open Ground Reconnaissance Endeavour? Is that Kojima-talk for FPS? I hope to the Boss it’s not.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this was another Big Boss entry, what with Kojima originally wanting to make the PC the Boss (which would have been incredible). Peace Walker kind of raised more questions than it answered.

  3. MGS5? I soooooooooo want it to be PS3 only :P (but i doubt it) :(

    • I want it to be multiplat so that people who bought MGS HD on the 360 and are interested in the franchise can have a chance to play it. :)

  4. Why do people want PS3 only? Just interests me. I mean stuff is so often comparable quality now.

    • People want to see Snake smoking every few hours for twenty minutes rather than it just loading instantly, apparently.

    • Because we don’t want a metal gear solid to be spoilt just do it fits on the 360s DVDs. Mgs4 would have required about 4-5 DVDs to fit on 360. As microsoft charge devs extra for games to be on more than 2 disks, it would force mgs5 to be smaller. Us ps3 owners don’t care if 360 only users miss out if it means that mgs5 is a better game.

I always though that it was pointless the 360 getting the hd collection. PS3 is the only system you can play MGS, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4 and MGS peace walker.

      • it’s a moot point, because logic doesn’t really enter this discussion, but MGS4 would not have taken up 4-5 DVDs. It was 4-5 DVD’s worth of Blu-Ray space but it duplicated a lot of the assets to combat the PS3’s tragically slow Blu-Ray drive speed – something that a speedy DVD drive wouldn’t require. Still multiple discs but nothing like the issues quoted by some PS3 die-hards.

Also, who cares that PlayStation is the brand that MGS is most closely associated with? Not scooping up those added sales on other platforms might mean no MGS6. Who would want that?

      • In addition, folk that think the Metal Gear lineage started with Solid confuse me.

      • Metal Gear lingerie?

      • It’ll be next gen anyway for ps4 / 720 most likely which will both have blu-ray.

Deffo don’t want it for ps3 I want new stuff.

    • I wouldn’t say the quality of exclusives is that comparable to multi-platforms, id say the vast majority of exclusives have a higher quality to them than multi-platform titles do.

Id want most my games to be multi-platform to allow the developers to secure the largest amount of revenue they can to (in theory) invest into the series.

However, the idea of a game series that was previously dedicated to only one platform moving into multi-platform does make me a little worried about quality. It would be like announcing Uncharted 4, but multi-platform. Could it have the same top level quality that it does now if it has to be made to work on multiple consoles? Probably not.

The fact that there is a new engine eases those worries for me quite a bit, but ultimately people will think of the problems MGS4 would have had if it was multiplatform in terms of fitting it onto a DVD. Concessions would have had to have been made and most likely you would see it coming out on 360 with multiple discs. It’s certainly nothing to do with any silly fanboy allegiances, not with some of us anyway.

      • So? I don’t see the issue here at all. Multiple disks != lower quality, in any sense of the word.

      • Sorry nofi, just added a bit into the comment to expand on my point more before I saw your comment. It’s the thought that the game might not be able to manage what it has done with the previous game due to not focusing on one console (which does generally mean a game has a higher quality).

If this game is set for next gen though (which in all likelihood it is) and on a new engine then I don’t see this being an issue as it will be starting from fresh anyway rather than having a lot of code or assets that were built for PS3 no longer being fit for purpose.

      • Anyone arguing that a multiplatform version would not reduce quality just needs to take one look at the new screens released for Metal Gear Rising ;)

  5. Project OGRE, that’s supposed to be an open world title… Open world MGS… I can dig it!

  6. Comic-Con!

    COMIC-CONNNNNNNN!

  7. !

  8. I really hope it won’t be a Big Boss game as i really want to see Raiden being transformed into the Cyborg ninja with heels. As that has a lot of potential and would help to develop him as a character as well as giving us another MGS movie. ;)

That said, if it is another big boss game, i will pick it up provided it’s a typical MGS game. :) Yes, i know i kinda contradicteted myself a bit but it’s a monday and i’m er.. look over there! *flees*

    • You heard it here first – Steve has fleas!

Yes, it’s a bad joke, but if he can use the ‘its monday’ excuse, i sure as hell can too! :)

      • GET OUT! *points towards the door and Forrest’s coat* Plus, i forgot to mention that i copyrighted the monday excuse last year so i’m suing you mister! :-p

  9. PS3 exclusive… let’s have it.

  10. The big thing I’m worried about is the control, I’m really poor at Shooters now because of being so use to the Keyboard and Mouse set-up.
