IGN have posted a tutorial video for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and – happy happy joy joy – it looks much better than those awful Comic-Con screenshots.
The video shows the cyborg ninja, Raiden, as he slices his way through a tutorial of cars, watermelons and target dummies.
Despite being able to chop an entire car to itty-bitty chunks the tables on which the watermelons are placed appear to be made of sterner stuff.
Look out for the moment when Raiden rescues a hostage dummy by slicing her clothes off revealing skimpy panties.
Here’s an idea for game developers: if you are going to put sexist crap in your games at least make it realistic. I suggest that when the clothes are chopped off the lady hostages you have a selection of underwear and 50% of the time the women are wearing sturdy ‘Bridget Jones’ pants and brassieres that lock their bosoms firmly in place.
That way you won’t have to waste time coding the ‘Breast bounce’ physics, so it’s a win all round!

If YouTube has to endure Bear Force One, we’re allowed bouncing tiddies in games. :P
Tuffcub
Bear Force One are old news, it’s all about me new chum Matt Zarley, “The video Rick Santorum doesn’t want anyone to see”

Blinder of a tune as well :)

It’s offical, Metal Gear has turned into anime porn. And PG are an American company right? :O as it seems something like the Japs would do.
Not impressed by the gameplay in the video and why do i suspect QTE will be very common and even be in the cutscenes? :S
Forrest_01
Nope, Platinum Games are a Japanese dev.

the half naked ladies aren’t exactly a new inclusion in the Metal Gear series.
there were posters and magazine of japanese models in bikinis in MGS2, and Metal Gear Acid 2 had 3d videos of women posing in skimpy camouflage outfits holding guns.
you have to slip this cardboard box thing over the psp that made it so each half of the screen was only seen by one eye.
kind of like those old 3d viewer things, i used to have one of those when i was little, had a great picture of a bird just as it dived into some water to catch a fish, i used to love that thing.
it also worked in game if i recall, bloody hell on the eyes though.
PoorPaddy89
Damn straight – MGS has a history of sexy lady images. The Beauty and the Beast Squad posing for the camera, the posters in MGS2-4, and EVA’s boob job to name a few. It’s as much a staple of the series as the carboard box.
I did think they went too far with Peace Walker though; for all characters you’re able to access high-res models of the characters and spin them around and zoom in to look at them. However if you unlocked something or another – can’t remember what now – but you were able to check them out in their underwear/bikinis. No such option for the male models. This was pretty disturbing for Paz especially. Thought the whole thing was pretty unecessary.

Lol, strange video but I will definately be picking this game up. Spin off or not, its still Metal Gear :D

Ahh I knew this would happen. Why is it that the sword can easily slice through a car in one swipe, yet when he’s fighting the group of guards it’s like he’s using a stick. They should make it more realistic by just adding more guards, but each one only takes one swipe to kill. It just looks stupid slicing at someone with a sword and nothing happens to them. The same problem was in Star Wars:TFU, it’s a lightsabre ffs. Why are these random guards taking 3 hits from a LIGHTSABRE to die?!?
fs
Imagine if everytime you hit one with a lightsaber they just vanished like obi wan does when Vader strikes him, be a lot of empty rags lying arund on the floor….
Forrest_01
Yeah, unfortunately single swipe attacks wouldn’t really leave much of a challenge for the game would it? You could just spam the attack button throughout the entire game & probably not even lose a bar of health, which wouldn’t make for much of a game.
Tom Pitcher
Then at least get the guards to dodge the swings rather than just stand there.
I think Batman had the right idea, I know that was punching so it’s slightly different, but the way you had to quickly adapt depending on the type of opponent was a brilliant.
Forrest_01
I think that they would actually all need to be superhuman to dodge swings from a Jedi or Cyberninja though, so that would be pretty difficult from a story point of view.
What you could have though is all guards armed with guns who shoot at you & you have to defend youself in a similar way to the way Wade Wilson is depicted in X-men Origins: Wolverine & have to either use their own bullets as weapons, or wait for an appropriate ‘reload break’ (or something) to attack.
That is pretty much the only way i can see single swipe attacks working & still having some substance.
Tom Pitcher
Yeah that makes more sense. If they had the advantage of being able to attack from a distance I think it would make more of a satisfying kill when you deflect bullets and finally get to them.
I think it’s the fact they’ve bigged up the ‘cut anything!’ Side of it, only to then say ‘oh except for generic enemies’. It’s like saying destory any wall you see in a fps, but if you shoot a rocket at an enemy they take a few hits from it.
The Lone Steven
It’s video game logic. The most infamous example is Sephiroth blowing up the galaxy a million times in the final fight. If he can do that then why not do it as even Cloud can’t prevent him from doing it. ;)
Youles
I love Metal Gear but I will not be getting this, looks like something I would get very bored of quickly. Also, his stance looks ridiculous.
fs
You sound like Ocelot
“What is that stance? And that gun?”
[the Ocelot unit all laugh at Snake]
Youles
Snake? Snake? Snaaaaaaaaaaaake!!
PoorPaddy89
Pretty… good?!
Forrest_01
Truth be told, this is the first Metal Gear i have been interested in since Metal Gear Solid on the PS1.
Youles
:O
fs
omg dude. omg.
Forrest_01
Not really too sure whats so shocking tbh – I absolutely hate stealth based games.
This seems much more up my street.
fs
Ha, yeah I know. Its not for everyone. Infact, i’ve always thought the MGS fans are quite unique. Not many would want to sit through cutscenes and submerge themselves in a very up and down story also, the gameplay is very slow sometimes and you need to be quite patient. I can totally see why you be partiuclarly interested if it wasn’t your thing.
Forrest_01
Yeah, its the slow plodding gameplay that gets to me tbh – Waiting in a box for half an hour for a perfect time to strike or sneak by, just to mess it up & have to start the whole thing again really isn’t my cup of tea. :)
fs
Yeah – it definetely has tested my patience on numerous occasions, only MGS4 can really be played differently to stealth.
The Lone Steven
:O *waits in a box so that he can stealthly kill Forrest for not liking MGS.* :op I’m guessing you won’t like MGS4 due to it being a film and it requires you to hide in a box in order to watch it.
Nickboss1
Lol….That was a joke right?
fs
I’m not sure this should be treated as an MGS game, Raiden isn’t Snake and they have completely different backgrounds and stories to tell. If you use the characters personality or combat style (whatever) as reference point for the genre of the games, then is it really any wonder that a modified ninja, that is really pissed off, is the centre stage of a hack and slash game? As apose to the experienced, calm, measured cold killer that is solid snake? People shouldn’t get confused between the two characters. Raiden isn’t snake and probably isn’t capable of doing a mission like snake (as proved in Sons of Liberty) and Snake isn’t capable of the ninja-esk battle techniques Raiden had developed (Snake tells us he doesn’t like swords when he gives raiden the HF Blade in MGS2) – for me it seems logical that the two are very different. We will probably see crossover and Raiden will probably have a whole host of different games made about him. The only thing the same about this game is the universe the characters are in, thats it.
Forrest_01
You are right – It isn’t an ‘MGS’ game, its an ‘MG’ game. The ‘S’ refers to ‘Solid’.
You are spot on about the differences in gameplay though & i for one welcome this approach.
KeRaSh
Didn’t this happen just a few weeks ago? Great minds think alike, I guess. :D
fs
Yeah, my bad, I probably should of made clear It clear that I know its not MGS and its been changed t MGR – I was just making the point that people are treating the game likes its MGS, when it isn’t. I suppose its inevitable for people to compare the two, but they are compeltely different.
Forrest_01
Aha – Indeed it did! Even maybe as recent as last week i think!
Bizarre. :)
Forrest_01
@FS – Just to clarify, i wasn’t saying you were wrong or pointing out a mistake of yours, i was just trying to reinforce your point for those that scoff saying “this isn’t MGS”… No, no it isn’t. :)
KeRaSh
I’m not a huge MG fan at all, so I actually don’t really care what kind of game it is. As long as the game is fun, I’ll think about picking it up. :)
That’s the benefit of not being a die hard fan of the franchise.
fs
Forrest_01 – Ah ok, either way I should probably have explained it more clearly – I’m glad you agree with my point, the people that (like you say) scoff at this game will be the ones that miss out. It’s a fun, unique take on metal gear.. if its successful I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another.
KeRaSh
“I’m not sure this should be treated as an MGS game…”
It’s not a MGS game. It’s a MG(R) game.
Mundham
I see a Norks theme here at TSA this week…
Tuffcub
That’s a very good idea. Breast Is Best week.
Forrest_01
When is Fanny is Fantastic week?
PoorPaddy89
It’s ALWAYS fantastic fanny week!
FRUIT0FDOOM
I thought it was actually quite a comical touch and little things like this I have come to expect from the franchise. Certainly not sexist and hardly revealing! If Zorro can do it to Zeta Jones then Raiden sure as hell can do it to some random hostage!
Certainly not in any danger of becoming Raiden Lollipop Melon Slicer and quite looking forward to the spin off.
Tuffcub
Clothes Spin Off?
Forrest_01
Like Wonderwoman.
