PSN Store Update: 22/08/12

Today has featured a mix of news for Sony fans. From odd patent applications aimed at digging out some extra cash from us to the sad news that Studio Liverpool is closing. This week’s Store update is something of a mixed bag too.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launches, bringing anti-terrorism back to its online shooter roots. This franchise started off as a Half Life mod and exploded onto the PC way back in 1999 so the new release is quite exciting for some of us old-timers. [Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has launched on PC and Xbox 360, the US PSN got it yesterday but it’s not listed in the EU update. Oh dear, SCEE.] Retro/Grade also launches today, that’s an innovative game that plays with time and music (review soon!).

We should also see the Sleeping Dogs demo that was pulled last week, along with Urban Chaos that also got held back at the last minute. There are also demos for Madden and NHL games, as well as a few PS2 games ported over but sadly there’s not a thing for the Vita.

  1. NHL & Madden demos for me…

  2. not a sausage for me this week.

  3. FFS IM GONNA BOYCOT SCEE NO CS – GOING XBOX NOW HAD ENOUGH

    • chill, brother. It’s a bit crap but I’m sure they’ll get it on the store as soon as they can.

      • yeah, just like they did with Auditorium. ^_^

      • Plus what you didn’t take into consideration cb was the fact that they wrote in all caps.

That means they are SERIOUS! ;D

      • CRUMBS!

    • Yeah me too, had it with SCEE. Going to Steam…….

      oh wait.

    • BYE BYE from PS3:RAVE LoL:D

  4. i can’t wait to hear what lame excuse scee come up with this time.

and where the bloody hell is the Dragon’s Dogma demo?

at least i can download it from the us store.

    bloody good it was too.

haven’t tried the Sleeping Dogs demo yet.

    • Here is the official reply

I’m afraid this is all I can say about Counter Strike at present:

Unfortunately Counter Strike has not been made available on the European PlayStation Store today and we apologise to those of you who were looking forward to playing it. We hope to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and will let you know if the situation changes.

      • will let you know **IF** the situation changes…FU SCEE

      • yeah i was right, that was pretty lame, but they’re not even bothering to come up with excuses now?

seriously, scee must be the laughing stock of the sony boardroom.

and what happened to the playstation all stars beta?
another sce title that only the yanks are good enough for?

scee talk a big frakking game at gamescom but they’re a bunch of useless twats when it comes to delivering.

    • and seemingly, still no youtube app.

funny, the xbox youtube app went worldwide the same day.

once again, only when scee are involved does it get delayed.

the pattern is so clear Helen Keller can see it.

      • The app is pretty meh anyway.

      • that’s not really a valid reason for holding it back though is it?

      • i mean, if they held up everything that was a bit crap, the store would have like 3 games on it. ^_^

      • lol

  5. A bit disappointing. Anyone heard when Tony Hawks HD will be out?

    • at least 3 months after the us gets it, going on past form.

  6. Meh for me.

That said Ive got a back log of games so maybe this isn’t so bad.

  7. Looks like the Sleeping Dogs demo and Legasista for me. Watching trailers for Legasista reminds me a little of the good old days, playing Ultimate Play The Game’s Atic Atac on the spectrum. Pity there isn’t a demo, but it’s still cheaper than the import version listed on Amazon currently.

  8. Just downloaded the Sleeping Dogs demo to find that the game is stretched to the sides on my SD TV (It’s got the usual black bars widescreen game usually have, but larger than usual which squashes the image). Is this a problem in the full game?

  9. Retro Grade, I’ll try that. Or rather, I’ll buy that and it’ll sit in my PS3 backlog. Excited

    • I tried it last night, free with PS plus and after a quick go at the tutorial quickly left the game. Just did not get it at all, which is odd as I love the old retro shoot em ups. I’ll probably give it another go but from the bit that I played, it looked good but did absolutely nothing else for me. :(

  10. well, the Sleeping Dogs demo was cool, the combat seems to be heavily influenced by the the Batman games, no bad thing.

shame they didn’t give us a chance to try the driving though.

    • Far easier than the Batman combat though, for me as a total novice at gaming combat, Batman combat was way too tough for me in those challenges, but I managed to master the Sleeping Dogs combat.
The driving is excellent in Sleeping Dogs so it’s a pity that the demo never included any.
Car hijacking is similar to Driver or Wheelman. Car takedowns , which is useful during cop chases, And a good choice of cars, vans and bikes for your garage or for stealing. ;)

      • … & the action hijack. Lets not forget that!! :)

But yeah, i agree with the cobat being very much like Batman, but as freeze said, there is a little more room for error with Sleeping Dogs (which isn’t a bad thing).

      • Oh, and the Boats….nearly forgot those!!
